Anna shared a post today from a friend of hers, it was a devotional by Tony Evans. The sentence "Sometimes it takes a mess to make a miracle." Jumped out at me. Anna and I were just talking at the kitchen table last night on how MANY crises we have ALL been in the last 12+ months. It's like driving down a highway and passing a car crash where everyone turns their heads to look, not wanting to. We feel like the last 12+ months have been nothing but 200 miles of non-stop car crashes. It's wearing on all of us. We have to ask, what is GOD up to? He has a plan. It has been God's storms that have created the majestic mountains and the polished rocks along the beach. Whatever your storm is, God may be preparing you to go through it rather than around or to retreat. The weathered storm will only make your self-image, your marriage, your health, your faith so much stronger. Calm seas never created great captains. Whatever storm you may be going through and whether it's on the horizon or you are in the eye of the storm I pray for you. God has prepared you for this and He has so much more for you on the other side. God Bless.

2020 has been a heck of a storm, hasn’t it?

Through these rough waters over the last couple of months, a hymn keeps surfacing in my mind. Originally written in 1834 by a Pastor named Edward Mote, this song "My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less" still rings true today. I think of all of the things we took for granted and had an identity in like vacation plans, schooling, jobs, ability to travel, toilet paper, and even going to church dissolved away. Today, the “old normal” seems like a dream of long ago we are trying to hang on to the memory of.

In all of this change, one thing remained. That thing could not be taken away, our faith in our savior Jesus. In some ways, as the sands of physical things sank away…perhaps our faith protruded out even higher.

As Americans, we like our conveniences and nice things, but don’t let those things define you. A marriage fastened to the foundational rock of Jesus Christ and not just the sand of this material world will weather any storm. Anna and I pray for you, your spouse, your children, and your marriage. These times seem uncertain and difficult. More now than ever, hold your partner tight and place your feet on solid ground.
