You Are Accepted
From: Finding Our Way Home in an Age of Anxiety
The first love says, “I loved you before you could love anyone or before you could receive love from anyone. I have accepted you. You are accepted. You are loved no matter what mother, father, brother, sister, school, church, society does. You are born out of my love. I have breathed you out of my love. I have spoken you out of my love. You are the incarnation of my love and in me there is no hatred, there is no revenge, there is no resentment. There is nothing that wants to reject you. I love you. Can you trust that love?
The original love is the original blessing.
The original love is the original acceptance.

Henri Nouwen
Reflection Question: What difference would it make if you fully accepted that there is nothing in God that wants to reject you?

“If God is for us, who can be against us?”
- Romans 8: 31

Loved into being,
hill, fen and field;
loved into being,
ocean flood and fish;
loved into being,
each plant and each tree;
loved into being,
you and me.

Dear God,
Thank You for this rainy morning. Please keep us safe and warm today. Help us stay peaceful and thankful, even with the rain. Bless our family and friends, and watch over us all. Thank You for Your love.
In Jesus' name, Amen.

Saying nothing
Jesus, when the religious leaders asked you
if you would punish a woman who had done wrong
you said nothing.
You knew nothing about her life
so you said nothing to condemn her.
Jesus,
when we are asked to condemn others
whose lives we know nothing about,
help us to say nothing.
Help us instead to find out what keeps people in poverty
and destroys communities,
and only then to say something
and do something –
something that is helpful and loving and just.

The Source of All Peace
From: Finding My Way Home: Pathways to Life and the Spirit
Do not give up working for peace. Always remember that the peace for which you work is not of this world. Do not let yourself be distracted by the great noises of war, the dramatic descriptions of misery, and the sensational expressions of human cruelty. The newspapers, movies, and war novels may make you numb, but they do not create in you a true desire for peace. They tend to create feelings of shame, guilt, and powerlessness, and these feelings are the worst motives for peace work.
Keep your eyes on the prince of peace, the one who doesn't cling to his divine power; the one who refuses to turn stones into bread, jump from great heights, and rule with great power; the one who says, “Blessed are the poor, the gentle, those who mourn, and those who hunger and thirst for righteousness; blessed are the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers and those who are persecuted in the cause of uprightness” (see Matt. 5:3-11). See the one who touches the lame, the crippled, and the blind; the one who speaks words of forgiveness and encouragement; the one who dies alone, rejected, and despised. Keep your eyes on him who becomes poor with the poor, weak with the weak, and who is rejected with the rejected. That one, Jesus, is the source of all peace.

Henri Nouwen
Reflection Question: When you engage current events, are you more likely to feel powerless or motivated to work for peace?

“Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them.”
- Matthew 15: 30

A Midweek Prayer for Strength and Focus
"Heavenly Father, as I pause in the middle of this week, I thank You for Your grace that has carried me this far. I surrender my plans, my worries, and my expectations to You.Where I feel tired, please refresh me. Where I feel discouraged, lift my heart. Grant me the wisdom to prioritize my tasks and the peace to let go of the things I cannot control. Guide my steps, bless the work of my hands, and give me the strength to finish this week stronger than I started. In Jesus’ name, Amen."

Each day’s tapestry
Soft fading stars above a misted meadow,
slow waking dawn of colour painting light,
a thrush’s song, the fox’s silent footsteps,
the rising day, the buzzard’s curving flight
declare your glory
bursting through life’s wonders;
Creator God,
within, beyond all plans:
help us to see your life in each day’s tapestry,
help us to walk this world as through your land.
