In this enriching encounter, which is part of the preparation for the Jubilee for the 1700th Anniversary of the birth of Saint Basil the Great, professor and theologian Luisa Zorraquin invites us to reflect on our way of approaching the Holy Scriptures. During the talk, titled «From Reading to Listening», we will discover that the Word of God is not simply information to be read, but a living event that seeks to transform our hearts and make us participants in its work.

The video takes us on a profound journey through various biblical passages, from the Old Testament to the parables of Jesus, teaching us that listening in the Bible always implies obedience, understanding and profound assimilation. Through the analysis of figures such as Abraham, Elijah, Samuel and the perfect listener who is Mary at the Annunciation, we will learn to distinguish the soft and subtle voice of God in the midst of the constant noise of our daily life.

This valuable presentation is promoted by the Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great. As women of prayer imbued with Eastern Christian spirituality, they give witness to the Gospel message. Professing the evangelical counsels in a monastic community based on the teachings of Saint Basil, they remind us of the importance of the Word of God being the daily nourishment of our life, prayer and mission. It was a sad day when Sr. Markianna and Sr. Martyna had to return to Ukraine. But they were happy to have had a few days, after the week long summer camp, to sightsee in NYC, Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia. They were a joy to have with us. Thank you, Sisters, for your presence!

As we prepare to enter the beautiful Dormition Fast on 1 August, our hearts begin turning towards one of the most beloved feasts in our Orthodox Church… the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos on 15th of August.

These two weeks are a precious gift. A time to slow down, pray a little more, attend church where we can, read the Scriptures, show kindness, practise forgiveness, and gently quieten the noise of the world so we can hear God more clearly.

The Theotokos is our greatest example of humility, obedience and unwavering faith. During this fast, we don’t simply remember her, we try to follow her example, asking her to pray for us, our families and the whole world.

If you’ve been feeling tired, lost, overwhelmed or distant from God, let this be your invitation to come home. You don’t have to be perfect to begin. Just take one small step. Light a candle. Say a prayer. Make the sign of the Cross. Open your heart.

May these coming two weeks be filled with peace, repentance, grace and countless blessings.

May Christ strengthen you, and may our Most Holy Theotokos cover you with her love and protection.
