This verse should sound familiar and is certainly much shorter than last months. It truly captures the foundational truth as to the perfect nature of Christ, and the extent to which his sacrifice ultimately secured for those who would believe: righteousness.

As we prepare our hearts for church tomorrow, here is a verse to remember. How wonderful is the steadfast love of our God.

After Jesus completes the Olivet Discourse, his crucifixion is only days away. He spends the remaining time in close proximity with his followers, one of which anoints him with oil in an expression of love and humble worship.

Join us tomorrow at the Legion at 10:00 to study the passage concerning the women Jesus said would be remembered for her expression of faith and worship.

Jesus, throughout his earthly ministry, constantly pointed out how the spiritual leaders of the Jews had turned the temple, something that was supposed to represent the very presence of God with his people, into an idol. At the very beginning of the Olivet Discourse, Jesus' single most prophetic predictive passage in Mark (chapter 13), Jesus predicts that the temple that the disciples are admiring would be dismantled stone by stone within the generation of his contemporaries as means of judgment upon those who had rejected their Messiah. The problem of turning a good gift from God into something very bad for our souls is something sinful humanity continues to struggle with today. The words of the old hymn ring ever true, "prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here's my heart; O take and seal it; seal it for thy courts above." (Come, Thy Fount of Every Blessing)

Mark 13, aka The Olivet Discourse, is a highly debated passage of Scripture amongst Christians. Regardless of where you land in your interpretation of it, there are certain hermeneutical principles that must be true. Since our God is not a God of confusion, there must be one true interpretation of Scripture. And because we want that interpretation--God's intention behind His inspired Word--we CANNOT ask "what does this mean to me." We must desire to know what God intends by what He says and we must do the work it takes to get there. Don't be lazy.
