A LETTER FROM BISHOP RALPH B. O'DONNELL NOTING THE 140th ANNIVERSARY OF THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

Dear Parishioners,

I extend my personal invitation to all Catholic men, 18 years of age or older, to join the Knights of Columbus.

It is a Catholic organization founded by Father Michael McGivney over 140 years ago in Connecticut.

The members adhere to the teachings of the Church and embrace the great principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism that guide their relationships with God, their family, the Church and society.

For the Knights, commitment to family and personal responsibilities come first, followed by support for their parish, local community and the diocese.

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the Sacraments, along with devotion to the Blessed Mother and Saints are essential components in their life that strengthen their faith and commitment to serve.

A new initiative for the Knights is called Cor, which is a flexible framework of prayer, small group formation and fraternity that helps focus men on Jesus through building Christ-centered brotherhood.

The various activities of the organization help support the members to fulfill their Christian responsibilities.

The Knights involve themselves with the youth, the elderly and other members of the parish through their participation in the various ministries, events and programs.

The Knights do many other good works that enhance the common good through their prayers, charity and service to the poor and the most vulnerable.

I, myself, am a Knight of Columbus and have witnessed the impact of this Catholic organization on their families, our diocese in particular, and in our society.

The Knights have been strong partners of the priests in the mission of evangelization and are always ready to respond generously when their bishop or pastor request their assistance.

Their support for the sanctity and dignity of human life, for vocations to the Priesthood, Religious Life and seminarians has been a significant contribution to the work of our Church.

I encourage all Catholic men to consider becoming a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Our world needs more Catholic gentlemen who can witness to others how to be a good father, a loving husband, a devout Catholic and an active member of the Church.

For more information, visit and talk to a member of the Knights of Columbus or for further inquiry you can access membership at kofc.org and join online for free using the promo code BLESSEDMCGIVNEY.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Ralph B. O’Donnell, Bishop of Jefferson City

It is with profound sorrow that I share the passing of Sir Knight James Robert “Bob” Asahl passed away on Saturday, May 24th, 2026.

Bob truly embodied the qualities of a Knight and a Catholic gentleman. He lived his life with deep meaning and purpose, always placing service to others at the forefront. Those who knew Bob will remember him as a man of unwavering faith, generosity, and dedication—someone who gave of himself selflessly and consistently.

Bob was a faithful Honorary Life Member of Bishop Michael F. McAuliffe Council #12992, dedicating 45 consecutive years of service. As a founding member of our Council, his legacy is woven into its very foundation. He served as Grand Knight during the 2019–2020 and 2020–2021 fraternal years and was currently serving as our 2nd Year Trustee.

He was also a devoted member of the Dan C. Coppin 4th Degree Assembly #573, where he gave 22 consecutive years of service, including serving as Faithful Navigator during the 2005–2006 fraternal year.

During this difficult time, I ask that you please keep his wife, Kathy, and the entire Asahl family close in your thoughts and prayers.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

On Memorial Day, we pause to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country, and to honor the sacrifice that makes our freedom possible.

We also remember the many members of the Knights of Columbus who have served with courage and faith, answering the call to defend both God and country. Their legacy lives on in those who continue to serve, protect, and lead with integrity.

We pray for the souls of the fallen, for the comfort of their families, and for peace in our world. May their courage and selfless love never be forgotten.

Happy Pentecost Sunday.

Happy Pentecost Sunday.

“Peace be with you.” — John 20:19

In today’s Gospel, the risen Jesus appears to His disciples, who are gathered in fear behind locked doors. He speaks peace into their anxiety, shows them His wounds, and breathes the Holy Spirit upon them.

From that moment, their fear is transformed into mission. They are sent to forgive, to heal, and to share the mercy they have received.

Christ comes to us in the same way, entering our fears, offering His peace, and sending us out with His Spirit.

🙏 Lord, fill us with Your peace, and make us instruments of Your mercy in the world.

In the Cathedral of St. Joseph monthly newsletter for May, we were blessed to read a wonderful article about our fellow Knight, John Poepsel. The article shares how a deep devotion to our Blessed Mother has shaped John’s faith and spiritual life over the years, as well as the important role Eucharistic Adoration has played in his journey.
