As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples.

And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Matthew 9:9-13

Friends, we invite you to join us again at St. John’s this SUNDAY as we give thanks for the many gifts God has given to all sinners, each and every one of us. Our BIBLE STUDY will begin at 9:30AM, followed by WORSHIP at 10AM.

As always, you can join us in person at St. John’s, or livestream on our website at stjohnslutheranjc.com

ALSO, don’t forget that our FREE annual VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (June 7-11) will begin this Sunday evening with a special KICKOFF EVENT at 5PM. Come and enjoy some food and fun.

Then return Monday-Thursday (June 8-11) for VBS classes running 6-8PM.

Our “One-of-a-Kind Zoo” is for ages 3 through entering Grade 9…and with Adult Bible Study, there is something for everyone!

As for Sunday’s worship, it may be that Matthew was a quiet man—but regardless, through the words he was guided by God to write, the Holy Spirit has been trumpeting the victory of God over sin, death and the devil for thousands of years. And God be praised for the rich grace that He bestows on every one of us sinners turned saints who come to Him week after week to receive His gifts of life, forgiveness and salvation. Just like Matthew, let’s tell the world about it!

Stay strong in Christ.

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:16-20

Friends, we invite you to worship with us again this SUNDAY as we along with other Christian churches celebrate the HOLY TRINITY—God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, Three in One.

BIBLE STUDY will begin at 9:30AM, followed by WORSHIP at 10AM.

You can join us in person at St. John’s, or livestream on our website at stjohnslutheranjc.com

Trinity Sunday often stands out from other services. We confess our faith using words like “uncreated, infinite and begotten.” But the good news is that we don’t have to understand our “infinite” and “incomprehensible” God. What we celebrate is knowing that He wrapped Himself in the flesh and blood of Jesus, our crucified, risen and ascended Savior. And that compels us to joyfully believe, confess and praise the mystery and majesty of the Holy Trinity.

As TLH #252 proclaims…

“We all believe in One True God
Father, Son and Holy Ghost
Ever-present Help in need,
Praised by all the heavenly host,
By whose mighty power alone
All is made and wrought and done.

We all believe in Jesus Christ
Son of God and Mary’s Son,
Who descended from His throne
And for us salvation won;
By whose cross and death are we
Rescued from all misery.

We all confess the Holy Ghost,
Who from both fore’er proceeds;
Who upholds and comforts us
In all trials, fears, and needs.
Blest and Holy Trinity,
Praise forever be to Thee!”

Stay strong in Christ.

When going through and selecting hymns for June, I came across this gem from the 1700s that has been passed down in the Church. May God grant you strength in your fight against the ten thousand foes of sin and Satan until at last your Lord takes you at your parting breath to His divine abode.

1. My soul, be on thy guard;
Ten thousand foes arise,
And hosts of sin are pressing hard
To draw thee from the skies.

2. Oh, watch and fight and pray,
The battle ne'er give o'er;
Renew it boldly ev'ry day
And help divine implore.

3. Ne'er think the vict'ry won
Nor lay thine armor down;
Thine arduous work will not be done
Till thou obtain the crown.

4. Fight on, my soul, till death
Shall bring thee to thy God;
He'll take thee at thy parting breath
To His divine abode.
