Today we celebrate the feasts of Marcellinus and Peter. were prominent enough in the memory of the Church to be included among the saints of the Roman Canon. Mention of their names is optional in our present Eucharistic Prayer I.

Marcellinus was a priest and Peter was an exorcist, that is, someone authorized by the Church to deal with cases of demonic possession. They were beheaded during the persecution of Emperor Diocletian. Pope Damasus wrote an epitaph apparently based on the report of their executioner, and Constantine erected a basilica over the crypt in which they were buried in Rome. Numerous legends sprang from an early account of their death.

Fr. Jones sent an email to all the parishioners of the Cathedral this morning…but in case you missed it (as he likes to say!) here is some news we’d like to share!

Please join us in praying for Fr. Jones and Fr. Greg as they begin serving in these roles and continue to serve as pastors of their parishes.

Bishop Ralph B. O’Donnell has announced two important leadership appointments for the Diocese effective July 1, 2026.

Very Reverend Stephen Jones, V.F. has been appointed as the new Vicar General.

Very Reverend Gregory Oligschlaeger, V.F. has been appointed Vicar for Priests.

Please join us in congratulating them as they begin these important roles of service to the Church. Let us keep them, and all our clergy, in prayer as they continue their ministry in faithful service to Christ and his people.

05/25/2026

Let us pause to remember and pray for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls of the faithful departed through, the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen

When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled,
they were all in one place together.
And suddenly there came from the sky
a noise like a strong driving wind,
and it filled the entire house in which they were.
Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire,
which parted and came to rest on each one of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in different tongues,
as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.

Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, "Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his native language?

We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites,
inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene, as well as travelers from Rome,
both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of God."
