I received an order from a couple to make a set of rings that had wood from the *Sacred Grove and stone from the Salt Lake Temple. Here I make the first ring. Hand-filed and shaped with a beautiful stone set into it, this ring was a lot of fun to make. Stay tuned for parts 2 and 3.

*There is signage at the sacred grove asking that visitors leave the natural materials in the Sacred Grove. To respect the wishes of the church, wood for this ring was taken with permission from parts of the Sacred Grove that are not on church property.

Elder Josiah Sandoval is a missionary whose love for the savior shows in the way he interacts with the people around him.

His ring was made from an old Book of Mormon stabilized in resin with some added ukulele strings for accent.

Follow along as I make a wishbone-styled ring using spalted wood from **The Sacred Grove. The ring was hand-shaped using files and sanded smooth to have a beautiful curve that will stack well with a wedding ring.

This ring is made from wood from that grove of trees, now known to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as The Sacred Grove.

**The wood was collected from property not owned by the church.

I was talking with the missionaries last night and was told that they don't have access to YouTube on their phones, but they can watch the ring-making videos on Facebook. I think am going to have to cross-post these videos both on Facebook and YouTube, if you see any repeats that is what is going on.

Making of the Nauvoo Temple Ring (Re-Upload)

Come join me as I make a ring out of limestone from the original Nauvoo temple foundation.

The original Nauvoo temple was dedicated on April 30, 1846, and abandoned later that year as the Saints moved west trying to escape mob violence. In October 1848, the temple was set on fire and destroyed by an unknown arsonist. In 1999 plans were announced for the rebuilding of the Nauvoo temple, and on June 27, 2002, the newly built temple was dedicated.

Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are a place where individuals make sacred covenants with God. We covenant to dedicate our lives more fully to God, we come to understand more fully that Jesus Christ is our savior, and we are married for time and all eternity.

The Nauvoo temple was the first temple in our time in which these sacred covenants were made. The building, loss, and destruction of the temple is a painful point in our history. It was a very special moment for me to attend the dedication of this temple when it was rebuilt.

The church has put out a wonderful video about temples, what they mean, and the covenants we make there.
