A humble, willing heart is powerful in the hands of God. No matter how gifted, talented or intelligent, a prideful or stubborn heart will limit what God can do with our lives. If we want to be on God’s side of things, it starts with humility and a willingness to serve Him and others. (Philippians 2:3-8; 2 Timothy 2:20-23; 1 Peter 5:1-5)

Father, thank You for the opportunity to be useful to You. You want to use everyone in some way, including me. Please don’t let me allow pride and selfishness to hinder what You are trying to do. Help me to have a humble and willing heart, so that I will be as useful as possible in Your hands.

Praise God when praise is due. We should give Him the glory when He has answered a prayer or blessed us. He deserves the honor, glory, and praise. We also need to remember from whom all good things flow. Praise Him! (Psalm 69:30-33; Psalm 95:1-5; Luke 17:11-19; James 1:16-17)

Father, thank You for all You do and for the guidance, blessings, and goodness You provide. I want to acknowledge You and give You the gratitude and honor that You deserve. I recognize that all that I have comes from You. You have heard my cries, answered my prayers, and met my needs. Thank You Lord!

God’s idea of strength is different from ours. The things that we think make us the weakest just might be what gives us our greatest strengths. When we let Him have our lives and empower us as He wants to, we can do far more than we ever could on our own. (2 Corinthians 12:7-10; Ephesians 3:14-19; Philippians 4:11-13; Colossians 1:9-14)

Father, thank You for the power that doesn’t come from me. I have to lean on You every day, and You are okay with that, even prefer it to me trying to do things on my own. Please continue to remind me of this and help me to even rely on You more and more. My strength is never enough. Yours always is.

Mental anguish is real. Our minds can be consumed by thoughts of harm, disaster, and ruin. If we are not careful, they can consume us and choke out any peace and joy that we have. That’s why it’s so important to fill our minds with goodness and encouragement. We have to offset the fearful and negative onslaughts with the power of faith and hope. That’s the only way to quiet the mind and live in the peace and joy that God wants to give us. (Romans 12:2; Romans 15:13; Philippians 4:4-9)

Father, thank You for the hope that You bring. I need it to fill my mind and to offset the negative that can overcome me. Please continue to help me to adjust my thoughts and to find hopeful and encouraging things to focus on. Remind me to do this as often as I need to. I know that peace, hope and joy are always there, just a thought, praise, or mind-shift away.

Is it helping or hurting? Every once in a while we need to examine our lives and the choices we make. Are they helping or hurting? Do they increase our odds of reaching our goals and living the life we hope for, or are our choices holding us back and hindering our progress? This can apply to every area of our life…relational, spiritual, physical, financial, and so on. Taking some time to evaluate this kind of stuff can really make a huge difference if we are willing to make any changes needed to keep us on track. (1 Corinthians 9:24-27; 2 Corinthians 13:5; Galatians 5:7-9; 1 Timothy 4:15-16)

Father, thank You for the opportunity to adjust and correct course when needed. There are times when I realize I’m not headed in the right direction. Please help me to see clearly in those moments so that I will make the changes needed. I don’t want to be stubborn or foolish. Instead, I hope to reject whatever is causing harm or hindering me so that I can be all that You created me to be.

We can either be fault-finders or grace-givers; There are plenty of opportunities for both. We can spend our time, energy, and emotions grumbling and pointing out the mistakes and failures of others, or we can choose to be graceful and forgiving. One way leads to bitterness, anger, and division, the other leads to peace, joy, and unity. Now we have to choose the path we will take. (Luke 15:1-7; Romans 2:1; Colossians 3:12-17; Titus 3:1-7)

Father, thank You for giving me grace when You had every reason not to. You do not condemn, judge, or hold my mistakes against me because of Your mercy and grace. Please help me to follow Your example and share in what You have done for me. Remind me of Your grace when I am tempted to point out the mistakes of others. Don’t let me grumble and complain against them. Instead, help me to show them the kind of grace and compassion that You have shown me.

The fruit of the Spirit is not a goal to be attained. We cannot achieve certain levels of goodness or holiness that allow us to unlock the next level of the Spirit’s gifts. Instead, the fruit of the Spirit is already within every believer and we have to learn to let it become the way we live. This happens more from surrendering and less from achieving. (Romans 8:1-7; 2 Corinthians 3:4-6; Galatians 5:16-25)

Father, thank You for the empowering Spirit that helps us be what we cannot on our own. I know that He enables me to live a life I otherwise could not by my own will or goodness. I pray that You will continue to help me allow the fruit of Your Spirit to be evident in my life. I know this requires me to let You be in control and that I follow. That’s how it’s meant to be and the way to a fruitful, amazing, and fulfilling life.

Who should we help and when? This is a valid question to ask if we want to be godly, kind, and generous people. Obviously, we cannot help everyone all the time so we do have to make some choices about how to share our time and resources.

The first thing to do is perhaps ask who did Jesus and the apostles help? The lost, needy, hurting, abused, neglected, helpless, and weak are probably all on the top of that list. When did they help them? When the opportunity arose and the Spirit moved them to act.

The Bible teaches us to do the same. We are instructed to use the gifts we have been given to meet the needs of others. When we see a person(s) in need and we feel moved to share our time, skills, and/or resources to benefit them in some way, then we might want to follow that prompting. Doing so will probably change lives…including our own! (Titus 3:8,14; James 1:22-27; 1 Peter 4:7-11; 1 John 3:16-18)

Father, thank You for the help that You have given me. I know that You have helped me based upon Your love and kindness, not on my worthiness. You have shared with me what I didn’t deserve and what I have not earned. You have been so good to me over and over again and I believe that You ask me to do the same for others. Please help me to see more clearly as to who and when I can serve. Don’t let me allow my own selfishness, pride, greed, or doubts keep me from helping others. I want to be a part of the work You started. I want to help others the way that You have helped me.

Transformation is always difficult and may even be painful, but it is also necessary to get better. This is true in every area of our lives. We can wish and hope for things to get better, but it always takes the process of transformation to truly change. (Romans 5:1-5; Romans 12:2; 2 Corinthians 3:18; James 3:2-4; 1 Peter 1:3-9)

Father, thank You for the power of transformation. You do not leave us the way we were when we found You. Instead, You take us through the changes we need to become more and more like You created us to be. I want to work with You in this process rather than fight against it. Help me to see that the struggles and trials are worth it and that I will be glad once I’m on the other side. I entrust You with my life and believe that what ever changes need to be made, they will be well worth whatever I have to face to get there.

Contentment is not a goal, it is a practice. If we hope to be content someday when we finally get all that we want, we will never attain it. However, we can practice contentment at anytime and in any situation. We must simply be grateful in the moment, no matter the circumstance, and be thankful for what we already have. That’s where contentment comes from. (Philippians 4:10-13; 1 Timothy 6:6-10; Hebrews 13:5)

Father, thank You for all that You have blessed me with. I’m grateful today for everything You provide. Please help me to be at peace and to enjoy it all, even if I have to faces some difficulties or challenges. Do not let my thirst for more or pending needs prevent me from making the most of today and all that I already have at this moment. Remind me to count my blessings rather than focusing in on what I wish I had. Let the peace of contentment sustain me.

We must be careful not to let our own limited understanding keep us from believing in what we do not comprehend. To turn away from God because we cannot explain Him is foolish if we think about it. If He is the Eternal, Almighty who spoke all of creation into existence, then there is no way we can grasp the fullness of who and what He is. We have no real frame of reference to understand the totality of God. Yet, we can know enough to see that He is…the “I AM”…and believe that He is God. That’s enough to start our journey of faith and to begin to grow towards understanding. (Genesis 3:13-15; Isaiah 55:6-9; Proverbs 3:5-8; Ephesians 3:14-19; Hebrews 11:1-3)

Father, thank You for making Yourself known in a way that points us back to You. We cannot know the fullness of You from our limited and finite place of existence. Please do not let me allow my lack of knowledge keep me from trusting You. Don’t let me wait until I “understand” before I seek You out and submit to Your Lordship. I acknowledge You as God, though I cannot even really fathom what that even means. Help me to simply accept this by faith so that You can do what only You can in and with my life.

What would God have us to do? That should be the question we are asking. It’s easy to want others to fix problems or make changes, but we also need to do our part. Right now we do need strong leaders to guide us towards a good future; Yet, we should not neglect to do what we can in our own area of influence. God wants to use each one of us to make a positive difference wherever we are. (1 Corinthians 7:17; Ephesians 4:15-16; Titus 2:11-14; James 1:22-27; 1 Peter 4:10-11)

Father, thank You for those who strive to make godly changes and lead us towards a good future. I know that they alone are not the answer. You want me to do my part. Please help me to do what I can. Don’t let me wait on others to do their part when I have things to do myself. Use me as You please and guide me with Your word and Spirit to seek, follow, and serve as You want me to.
