An Apostolic Pentecostal church, Powells Grove was founded in 1940 and continues to live the legacy that was begun over seventy years ago. Committed to the Apostles' Doctrine we preach and teach that Jesus Christ is the One Almighty God "manifest in the flesh" (I Timothy 3:16) and that "in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily" (Colossians 2:9). He is "the way, the truth, and the life
" (John 14:6) and the "door of the sheep" (John 10:7). All that would enter the kingdom of God must come through faith in Him and His atoning work on Calvary. As Jesus taught Nicodemus, we still believe, that unless one is "born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God" (John 3:5). We preach this New Birth Experience just as Peter did on the day of Pentecost: "Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost" (Acts 2:38). After being thus born again every believer should seek to live a life of repentance and holiness for we are strongly admonished to "follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord" (Hebrews 12:14). The life of the Apostolic Christian should thus be marked by holiness, "unfeigned love" (1Peter 1:22), and an exhibition of the "fruit of the Spirit" which can only come by living and walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-25). The life of an Apostolic Church is likewise characterized by the preaching and teaching of sound doctrine, the work of the five-fold ministry (Ephesians 4:11), and the exercise of the gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:28). The church at Powells Grove seeks to be such a church, so that we might minister to the saints and reach our families, friends, community, and world with the gospel of Christ all the while "looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ."
