PARABLE: “When Love Just Knows”
There once was a young man who had long since left home, chasing life in a busy and distant place. The years had passed quickly, and though he loved his mother dearly, life had a way of keeping him just far enough away.
One evening, after a long and exhausting day, he found himself sitting alone, overwhelmed by things he couldn’t quite explain. There was no call, no message—just a quiet heaviness.
Miles away, in a small, familiar house, his mother suddenly paused in the middle of her evening routine. She couldn’t say why—but she felt something. That same old stirring in her heart she had known since he was a boy.
She sat down in her chair, folded her hands, and began to pray. She prayed for peace over him. She prayed for strength. She prayed for whatever burden he was carrying—though she didn’t know what it was.
Later that night, the young man felt something shift. The weight didn’t completely disappear, but it lifted just enough for him to breathe again. And somehow, he knew someone had been praying.
The next morning, he called his mother. Before he could say a word, she softly said, “Son, I don’t know what you’re going through—but I prayed for you last night.”
There was a long pause on the line and then quiet tears. Because sometimes a mother doesn’t just guess what her child needs—she knows because love listens where words cannot reach. And in that sacred knowing, we catch a glimpse of something even greater—the love of a heavenly Father, whose thoughts are higher, whose ways are perfect, and whose heart never stops reaching for His children.
MORAL: May we all learn from a loving mother’s example and in doing so, reflect Christ a little more each day.—Matthew Dobson
