Happy Pentecost! Join us as we read Acts 2: 1-21 and discuss what it means that the Holy Spirit of God is with us!

The Ascension is mysterious and if we are not careful, we can get bogged down in the hows and whats, when really we need to pay attention to the whys! In Acts 1:1-11, we are told of Jesus leaving the disciples with a promise of the coming Holy Spirit which will empower them for the work of sharing the good news of the kingdom of God. The disciples are concerned about how and when God will pour ot power to restore the kingdom of Israel. Jesus points them (and us) to something greater- to the coming of the Holy Spirit to empower believers to share the good news to the ends of the earth!

It is exciting to think about the empowering work of God in our lives! In Ephesians 1: 15-23 Paul reminds the church at Ephesus and us that the power we receive is God's gift through Christ for the church which is the body of Christ. We can only take FULL advantge of all that God offers us when we work together for the will of God, loving one another as Christ commanded. It's exciting and daunting, but with God's help we can be so much more than we are on our own.

Jesus commands us to love one another in the same way he loves us. He gives this command in John 13: 31-15 right after he has washed ALL the disciples' feet and then Judas leaves to betray him. Right after this, Jesus will tell Peter that he will deny Jesus three times. In the face od all this, Jesus still loves us and wants ALL to be loved and served. Our Acts 11: 1-18 reading doubles down on this as Peter is given a vision (3 times!) and then is sent by the Holy Spirit to preach to and baptize a household of Gentiles (considered unclean, outsiders to many early Christians). Whether we have felt like an unclean outsider or have wanted to point out the unworthiness of others, the GOOD NEWS is we are ALL loved and given opportunities for changes hearts and new lives in Christ!

Have you ever been right? Have you ever been wrong? Today's reading from Acts 9: 1-20 is the story of Saul (who would later be known as Paul) who thought he totally understood who God was and what God wanted him to do. He was wrong. The risen Christ corrected him and called him to a new way of seeing things. Ananias, the man who first helped Saul didn't want to because he had heard about the great harm Saul had done, but Jesus told him in a vision to help, so Ananias did. Both of these people thought they had all the answers, both were humbled and experienced a bigger reality in listening and following Christ. What might we be missing because we fail to be realize we just might be wrong?

Many of us have read the story of Jesus after he was raised meeting his disciples on the lakeside to share a meal of fish in John 21: 1-19. It is a reminder of the early call of some of these same disciples as found in the gospel of Luke and it appears to be a reconciliation moment between Jesus and Simon Peter. It is also a call story. Yes, a story of Jesus saying to Simon Peter, "Follow me." And a story of Jesus whispering to us, "Follow me."

Doubting Thomas gets a bad rap. The other disciples didn't believe at first either. It can be hard to believe and live into something that at first seems impossible and unseeable. Join us as we read John 20: 19-31 and Acts 5:27-32 and discuss how we can believe and see and be something for others to see as they come to believe. Its all about witnessing and being a witness!

Happy Easter! Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen Indeed! And in Christ we also may rise to new life in him! Join us as we read the resurrection account of John 20: 1-18 and realize the Lenten Journey we have been on has led us to the new, resurrected, transformed life that we have in Christ that starts right now!

Palm Sunday is a day of excitement and wonder. It is a day of deep and profound joy even as it is a day that leads Jesus one day irrevocably closer to the cross. Of course the cross is where forgiveness and new life, the seeds of our resurrected life in Christ, are coming to fruition. As we read Luke 19: 28-40, we realize that it is not just us, but all creation is excited about what God is doing through Christ.

What does it mean to be humble? Does it mean we think we are worthless? No. Jesus humbled himself in many ways, culminating in his death on the cross. To practice humility is to put ourselves in loving relationship with the world following the example of Christ. On this Fifth Sunday of Lent we are contrasting the humility of Mary and the selfishness of Judas as we read John 12: 1-8 to help us understand better what Paul means in Plilippians 3: 4-14 when he talks about finding value only in Christ. If you feel called to participate, you are invited to celebrate communion with us at the end of our time together.

On this Lenten Journey, this Christian journey, this journey that is our lives, we are constantly surrounded by the grace of God. We always need the love of God in our lives, sometimes we realize it more than others. We are also invited to live lives that extend grace and share the love of God with others. In Luke 15: 1-3; 11-32, we hear the story of a father with two sons. It is a story of grace and possibility. It is a story we all need..

03/20/2022

Did you ever need a second chance? We all have in one way or another. The good news is our God is a God of mercy, second chances, and the empowering love to help us act with mercy toward others in our lives. Join us as we read Luke 13: 6-9 and discuss the mercy we need on our Lenten journey that is really the journey of our lives.
