The Milton House is only one of several sites close to SDB churches with strong connections to Seventh Day Baptists and the UGRR. Our convictions have led us to aid rest and freedom seekers for generations. We're proud of our heritage and of the great work sites like the Milton House are doing to tell the stories of faithful people who did what was right, even in the face of danger.

September is designated as International Underground Railroad Month to honor the significant historical legacy of the Underground Railroad and to raise awareness about the ongoing struggle against human trafficking and modern slavery.

The courage and ingenuity of those involved in the Underground Railroad—conductors, stationmasters, and freedom seekers—underscore the human quest for dignity and justice, making the Underground Railroad a pivotal chapter in American history and a powerful testament to the enduring struggle for civil rights.

By commemorating this pivotal moment in history, we not only celebrate the progress made in the fight for civil rights but also encourage education and advocacy to combat contemporary injustices.

The Milton House Museum is proud to share the history of the Underground Railroad not only in September, but every day. The Milton House Museum strives to give voice to the freedom seekers who courageously risked their lives for freedom, and to educate on how their stories still impact our world today.

Come walk in the footsteps of Freedom Seekers by taking a tour at the Milton House Museum, Wisconsin's ONLY verified Underground Railroad site that is open to the public. Tours are currently offered by appointment, and tour details can be found on the museum's website https://miltonhouse.org/tours

This is terrible news. Please be in prayer for them as they dig out of this, and consider supporting their work.

Appreciate the shout from the ABHS today! The Sabbath Recorder is indeed still in publication!

June 14, 1844. The first issue of the Sabbath Recorder was published by the Seventh Day Baptists. Seventh Day Baptists observe the Sabbath on the seventh-day of the week—Saturday—in accordance with the Biblical Sabbath of the Ten Commandments. ABHS has issues of this magazine beginning in 1844 to present. It is still being published.

Throughout this month, the Milton House Museum has been featured on a variety of Wisconsin news broadcasts. Today, the Museum was Madison's ABC affiliate! Here's the segment!

Joseph Goodrich founded Milton House. He grew up in New York, a strong anti-slavery state. Through his religion, he continued those beliefs.

Two weeks ago, three Seventh-day Adventist leaders, Michael Campbell, Kevin Burton, and Matthew Lucio, visited the archives to do some research and become better acquainted with what is in our collection. While they were here, they recorded an episode of the Adventist Pilgrimage podcast, available here, about some of the connections between Seventh-day Adventists and Seventh Day Baptists. We were glad to host their research and for Nick to participate in the podcast to provide some context around the SDB movement for their SDA history audiences. You can listen to that podcast at the link below.

This article from Lucidea, the library software company which provides us with our database, ArchivEra, does a great job of outlining what sorts of records we have always sought to preserve in our collection and which records we encourage churches, associations and networks to preserve. If you have questions about how to preserve the records of your local church or organization, please reach out!

Organizations need to retain certain records beyond current needs according to regulatory, legal, financial, and operational requirements.
