Hope & Light Faith-Based Mental Health Ministry Support group for those who suffer with depression/anxiety. Meetings 2nd and 4th Thursday every month Why A Mental Health Ministry? Whose life will we save today?

Like any other illness, such as Heart Disease or Cancer, Mental Illness is NOT a choice, but rather a very real struggle. A minimum of 20% of the people in our congregations suffer from Mental Illness, many of them in SILENCE due to the stigma surrounding this condition. Currently, in the United States, the su***de rate has reached a 30 year all time high of over 40,000 completed su***des annually

, with 90% of these individuals having a psychiatric diagnosis. That is 40,000 too many lost lives to this disease. Galatians 6:10 tells us that when we have the opportunity, we are to do good to ALL people. Statistics tell us that a person with a Mental Illness is more likely to tell their Pastor, before they tell their Primary Care Physician. As believers, we need to educate ourselves about Mental Illness, be aware of the warning signs that a person is in trouble, and have a willingness to minister to this population of God's people. Conversations can change, and SAVE lives.

This is a verse I believe we all need in our bag of warfare weapons at all times but so often we stop at just this passage. If we continue reading it says this…

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

Our minds can take us to places we do not want to go. Anxiety and depression are dark places to be and the thoughts that can take hold can be a battle that sometimes takes all our effort to conquer. I don’t say this easily because I have been in those places more times than I want to admit. But God is my fortress and I speak the mind of Christ over myself daily. The word of the Lord has to be my daily bread because without it the things not of Him begin to slip back in.

Y’all He is a good, good God who has given us the name of Jesus that we can speak out everyday. He has given us prayer and the strength to ask for His peace to wash over us!
