Thank you for your Trust.
Brian Fitzgerald
I’ve known Brian and other family members for many years.
Back in the late 70’s, 80’s involved in construction work turning service gas stations into convenience stores plus building all display cases and counters for the late Micheal Jr. Fitzgerald as well as custom cabinets with art glass, remodeling family rooms for Mike and Brian’s uncle and wife. It was a great pleasure always working with them.
Then a article came out in the Janesville Gazette stating that the City of Janesville was thinking of tearing down the Oak Hill Chapel because of its bad condition and would be too costly to restore. I grew up just blocks away from the chapel. As a young boy I slid down many of the hills in the winter and spring was fun riding my bike on the hills. Many of my friends and I camped out behind the cemetery woods.
I was sick of the thought that they would consider taking a wrecking ball to this chapel that was built to last for centuries, by the Knights of Pythias a fraternal organization, focused on promoting friendship, charity, and benevolent.
I called the City mangers office first thing the next day for information who was dealing with the chapel and at the time was Rebecca Smith so a appointment was setup for what could be done in trying to Save the Oak Hill chapel!
On Oct. 2013 City Council Meeting was going to discuss the chapel and possibly even vote to tear it down! I attended that meeting used my 3 minutes to speak to the council in front of me and everyone in the room.
We need to Save this historical chapel. Give me time to organize a group and fundraising.
Brian Fitzgerald spoke up from council group stating why not wait and give it a chance of Saving this building. So the members of council told me we will give you 5 months, put together a group and raise $40,000.00 come back and we will talk.
That’s what I did!
It was the local and Rock County residents that came together
So many to thank, 100’s of contractors, business owners, our group 18+ Friends of Oak Hill Chapel.
