This week, we started a new sermon series through the Gospel of Mark.

We opened in verse one — “the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God” — and drew out three truths.

💙The Beginning Mark isn’t saying the gospel was preached for the first time. God’s promise of a deliverer goes back to Genesis 3:15, and the whole Old Testament is the story of God’s people waiting for its fulfillment.

💙The Gospel In the ancient world, this word meant a world-altering announcement — the kind used for the birth or victory of an emperor. Mark applies it to a crucified rabbi from Nazareth, claiming Jesus, not Caesar, is the true King.

💙Christ, the Son of God Two titles together: Messiah, the one Israel had waited for, and Son of God, fully divine. Only because Jesus is God himself could his sacrifice actually pay for our sin. Our assurance rests on his finished work, not our own performance.

This past Sunday, we closed out our five-week series, The Disciple’s Journey, with Matthew 28:16–20 — Jesus’ Great Commission to His disciples.

❤️Christ Commissions Imperfect People. Even as the disciples worshiped the risen Jesus, some still doubted — and He sent them anyway. Doubt doesn’t disqualify you from following Christ.

❤️Christ Commissions from His Authority. Our mission doesn’t rest on our own ability or confidence. It rests on the authority of the risen Christ, who has all authority in heaven and on earth.

❤️Christ Commissions with Command and Presence. Jesus sends us to go, make disciples, baptize, and teach — and He backs that command with a promise: “I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

This past Sunday, we continued our series The Disciple’s Journey with a look at Philippians 2:1–11. Paul called a divided church toward unity — not through gritted-teeth effort, but by reminding them who they already were in Christ. We saw that the humility Christ calls us to isn’t a goal to strain toward from a distance; it’s the mind we already share with him through union with Christ. We also traced the shape of Christ’s own humility — from equality with God, to the form of a servant, to death on a cross — and the hope that follows: the same God who exalted Christ has already told us how the story ends. Our five-week Discipleship Training continues tonight at 6:30 PM in the Commons Area!

Last week, we focused on the importance of studying God’s Word and learned the HEAR Method. This week, we’ll explore the importance of biblical community and how we grow stronger in our faith as we encourage and support one another.

Whether you’ve attended from the beginning or are just getting started, it’s not too late to join us! This study is designed to help believers grow in their walk with Christ while building meaningful relationships with fellow believers.

This Sunday, from Acts 2:42–47, we saw the big idea: God never intended spiritual growth to happen in isolation. Disciples are formed in committed community.

Three ways that played out:

- Devoted to the Truth, Together: We stay anchored to God’s Word by sitting under it together, not just alone.

- Devoted to One Another: Real fellowship means active, costly care — prayer, honesty, and noticing when someone’s struggling.

- Devoted to the Rhythm: Corporate worship and life together in homes aren’t competing options — they’re two halves of one whole.
