Deacon Hardaway met with six other Deacons at Piccadilly restaurant and explained to them what God had spoken to him. The deacons in attendance were Deacon Johnny Eason, Deacon Charles Samples, Deacon Abraham Williams, Deacon Andrew Lovett, Deacon Nathaniel Tolliver and Deacon Criswell. Deacon Hardaway suggested they contact Deacon Bruce Hickson to ask him to be our spiritual leader. Minister Hick

son agreed and at that time stated “We need to establish a name for our church”. It was decided the church name would be unity Missionary Baptist Church. Minister Hickson received his license on February, 7th 2010 from Stanley Deverger of United Baptist Church. We needed a sanctuary where we could fellowship. We temporarily settled in at Weston Mortuary, 3017 N. Our first worship was held on Valentine’s Day, February 14th2010. On this Sunday, we had 21 members to join Unity Missionary Baptist Church. As the word began to spread that Unity Missionary Baptist church had a powerful young man of God preaching the Gospel, membership began to grow. On March 28th 2010, Minister Hickson was ordained by the Emanuel Progressive Baptist Association under Reverend Dr. Gatrell L. Sims, Moderator officiating at New Redeem Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend Willie Addison, Sr., Pastor. On this day Minister Hickson became Reverend Bruce T. Hickson.

“For 16 years, God has been faithful! Through every trial, every prayer, and every praise, the Lord has kept His church standing. The same God who started this work has sustained it with His mighty hand. We celebrate not just years, but souls saved, prayers answered, and victories won. And if God has brought us through 16 years, we know the best is still ahead—because the fire is still burning, the Spirit is still moving, and the church is still marching on! Hallelujah!

“As we celebrate 16 years of God’s faithfulness. Through every trial, every prayer, and every victory, the Lord has sustained this church. What started by faith has been carried by His grace. For sixteen years God has healed, saved, delivered, and poured out His Spirit in this place. We thank Him for the past, we praise Him for the present, and we trust Him for an even greater future.
