Mark's is a progressive ELCA Lutheran congregation in Jacksonville's historic San Marco neighborhood. We have been an active part of this community since 1938 and take seriously our responsibilities in the city and neighborhood. We are proud to call ourselves an urban Lutheran congregation. Mark's has been known for its excellence in traditional and liturgical forms of worship and sacred music. While we are traditional, we are not stuffy or rigid. We understand that God continues to bless his people with new music and new ways to bring praise and glory to God. We are challenging without being preachy, and contemporary without being trendy. Mark's pays close attention to the needs of the people in our congregation and in the world around us. We have well-developed caring ministries for those who are sick or homebound in our congregation. Likewise, we are active in serving and advocating for those in need in Jacksonville, Florida, and around the world. We are a congregation that shares a living, daring confidence in God's grace. It is said that there’s no night in heaven. I’m not sure if that’s true because heaven for me would be choir practice all day and worship services and concerts at night.

This is to say I’m glad to have the Festival Choir resuming its rehearsal schedule next week! (Wednesday, Sept. 2nd at 7:00 PM)

We’re always looking for new singers! You do not have to be a member of St. Mark’s to sing in our choir.

When I was in the sixth grade my family moved from Hawaii to southwest Wisconsin where we immediately became active members of Bad Axe Lutheran Church, a rural parish that my ancestors helped build. I was baptized there as a baby. The church is full of extended family - both inside and buried in the church cemetery outside the door.

As you can probably guess, music was my favorite part of the service. One of the first hymns I came to love was "All Who Believe and Are Baptized" which is sung to the tune "Es ist das Heil."

I'm excited to be singing a Bach cantata that uses this tune - even if it paired with a different text.
