Being Evaluated Well

Did you know that Scripture calls us to be evaluated well by those outside the body of Christ? We see this in Thessalonians and Timothy. It is even a requirement for an overseer to have a good reputation in the community.

In this short snippet, we address how our infighting and divisiveness can tarnish our witness among the lost. If we are to be known by our love for one another, then love must overcome high-mindedness and division.

We must be careful not to allow doctrines of men to shape a character that opposes the work of the kingdom. As Romans 14 reminds us, we are to ensure that our liberties do not destroy the work of God. This is a staggering truth that should cause us to pause and consider what the true markers of our faith really are.

Ungodly Division

As believers, we are called to study our Bibles diligently and know God’s Word well. However, we can easily get lost in the weeds on what Scripture calls “doubtful” or “debatable” things. Romans 14 reminds us that love must overcome our arguments over secondary issues.

In this short clip, we address a current debatable subject that has caused much heartache and unholy division in the church. True Christian unity is not found in winning debates, but in walking in sincere love and extending grace where Scripture allows liberty.

Romans 14 "Dont Let Liberty Destroy"

In this morning’s teaching we continue our verse-by-verse journey through the book of Romans with chapter 14.

Paul addresses matters of Christian liberty, personal conviction, and how we are to walk in unity and love even when we differ on disputable things. True Christian living calls us not to judge one another over secondary issues, but to pursue what makes for peace and mutual edification — always remembering that we will each give an account to the Lord.
This passage challenges us to examine our own hearts, extend grace to others, and prioritize the kingdom of God over personal preferences. May we learn to live in the freedom Christ has given while refusing to cause a brother or sister to stumble.

If this teaching blessed you, please share it with someone who needs encouragement. Subscribe for more verse-by-verse teachings that help us grow in sincere love and faithful obedience to God’s Word.

What Forgiveness Isn't

Biblical Love Cultivates Simplicity

“Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ ‘You shall not covet,’ and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”
Romans 13:8-10 (NKJV)

This passage is a powerful follow-up to the command in the previous verses to submit to governing authorities. After calling us to live under God's appointed authorities, the Lord reminds us of the kind of heart that makes such a life possible, a heart of love.

True biblical love cultivates simplicity. When we love God and love others as ourselves, the Lord sanctifies us into a kind of peaceable people. A life rooted in love for God and genuine care for our neighbors reduces conflict, drama, and unnecessary complications.

This kind of love doesn’t just make life simpler for us as individuals, it results in communities that are easier to lead and bless. However, we should not confuse simplicity with ease. Following God’s ways often requires difficult choices and self-denial, yet when our decisions are grounded in His love, the options become clearer, the path straighter, and the burdens lighter.
This is one of the beautiful ways Jesus makes His yoke easy and His burden light for those who follow Him.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, teach me to walk in the simplicity of Your love. Help me to owe nothing but love to those around me. Let Your love shape my thoughts, words, and actions so that my life brings peace instead of conflict. May I fulfill Your law by loving others as You have loved me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Submitting to God’s Authority

“Every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.”
Romans 13:1

The Christian life is filled with high and holy calls, and this is certainly one of them. Yet, in our time, many believers have quietly drifted away from this clear command of Scripture. In departing from it, life has become far more difficult, chaotic, and confusing.

When was the last time you honestly considered that God’s Word commands every soul — including yours — to submit to the governing authorities He has placed over us? Have you truly embraced this truth?

There is a deep and lasting peace found on the other side of faithful submission to God. Even when we don’t understand or agree with those in authority, we can trust the One who appoints them.

Prayer:
Lord, help me walk in humble submission to the authorities You have placed in my life. Forgive me for the times I have resisted Your will in this area. Give me a heart that trusts You above all, and grant me Your peace as I obey Your Word. Amen.

The Life Of A Christian pt.6

This week we continue our study through the book of Romans by examining chapter 13 and what it means to live like a Christian under God’s appointed authorities.

We begin with a review of the final remarks of Romans 12 and the truth that vengeance is the Lord’s. We are called to pray for our leaders and trust that God appoints authorities. This leads us into Romans 13:1-7, where Paul gives clear instruction on expressing faith in God by honoring the laws and rulers of the land.

“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.” (Romans 13:1 NKJV)

These verses teach us the importance of submission, the purpose of rulers, and the benefits of living rightly under authority. We also explore how biblical love upholds a society as seen in Romans 13:8-10, where loving God first and our neighbor as ourselves fulfills the commandments. Finally, Romans 13:11-14 reminds us that our ultimate motivation is the soon return of Christ — therefore we are called to put off the works of darkness and put on the Lord Jesus Christ.

This text challenges us to live with genuine submission, sincere love, and hopeful urgency in light ofGod's appointed authorities and Christ’s return.

If this devotion encouraged you, please share it with someone who needs it. Subscribe for more verse-by-verse, scripture-based teachings that equip us to walk faithfully with the Lord.
