Obituary
Richard W. Fowler, 75, of Jacksonville passed away August 21, 2026. He was born May 30, 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late William C. and Anita M. (Chamberlin) Fowler. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Fowler; and two daughters, Cindy Fowler and Tracy Fowler.
Richard dedicated more than 40 years to Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked as a General Foreman, but to him, the railroad was never simply a job, it was a lifelong passion and a meaningful part of who he was. His love for trains became something he shared with those he loved, creating memories and passing that down through the generations.
Richard had a genuine love for the simple joys of life. He loved being outdoors, traveling, fishing, a good game of chess or bowling, or taking a Sunday drive just to see where the day led. These were never just hobbies or ways to pass the time, and he rarely did them alone. He found a way to turn the things he enjoyed into opportunities to connect with his family, and teaching them to find adventure in everyday moments. For Richard, the best memories were always the ones made together.
More than anything, Richard was devoted to his family. To him, family was never limited by a last name or a bloodline. If you were important to someone he loved, you were family too. He intentionally created a space where everyone could come together, feel welcome, and know they belonged. As his family grew, he continued to make room for more; more people, more stories, more laughter, and more memories. He had a gift for bringing people together and creating a home where family could gather.
Left to cherish Richard’s memory are his children, Becky (Pat) Lammert and Sarah Thompson; step-children, Thomas Wall, Stacey Horton, David Wall, Benjamin Wall, and Jennifer Bridges; 16 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Abby, Skyler, Makayla, Garrett, Elizabeth, Joshua, Issac, Matthew, George, Annemarie, Christopher, Juliana, Michael, Hannah, and Kaylin; 4 great grandchildren, Carson, Nova, Mateo, and Paisley; and siblings, Jim Fowler, Bob Fowler, Margie Reeves, and Janet Copley.
Visitation will be held at Moore’s Funeral Home in Jacksonville on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Richard will be laid to rest with his wife, Kathleen, at Rest Hills Memorial Park in North Little Rock.
Richard was also deeply involved in his church, where he faithfully served others and especially enjoyed providing meals for those in need. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Richard’s memory to Mission 5000.
