Day 52 (June 2, 2026)

The "highlight" of our history occurred in 1992 when 5 elders and 5 deacons were finally ordained. Brother McClendon was selected as one of the elders, with Brother J.S. Winston returning to assist with the ceremony. Even a heart attack in October of that year couldn't keep Brother McClendon down; he fully recovered and returned to work harder than ever. This year marked the fulfillment of a vision decades in the making.

1st ever scriptural Elders of Northside Church of Christ, Jacksonville, FL: Charlie E. McClendon, Amon Palamore, Philip Mobley, Louis Jackson, Jr., and Bobby Gibson.

2nd installment of Deacons: Stanley Shootes, Frank Copeland, Genovis Peterson, Sr., Melvin May, and Harold Andrews.

Join us for the 53rd Annual Senior Minister and Wife Appreciation & Retirement Celebration for Charlie E. and Ida McClendon!!

Wednesday, June 3rd - Friday, June 5th at 7pm nightly, meet us at the church building (4636 Ave B)

Saturday, June 6th at 6pm, meet just at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront Hotel, BUT, you MUST have a ticket, and tickets are SOLD OUT!

Sunday, June 7th at 9:30am, join us for Worship at the Hyatt (no ticket needed). At 12:30pm, we will have lunch at the Haytt (ticket required - we are sold out ). After lunch, we will have the Installation Ceremony of Bro. Al Jackson (no ticket needed).

Day 51 (June 1, 2026)

1991 saw 161 baptisms and the return of an intensive "on-the-job" training program. Brother McClendon spent the year writing, teaching, and training the congregation on the biblical roles of leadership. He was preparing the ground for the most significant milestone in the church’s history: the official appointment of a scriptural eldership.

Day 50 (May 31, 2026)

Charlie McClendon took his son Michael under his wing, training him specifically in the art of personal evangelism. Michael was given charge of the Personal Evangelism ministry, ensuring that the fire his father started in 1973 would continue to burn brightly. Together, they worked to assist all the other ministries of the church. This partnership brought a new dynamic to the Northside pulpit.
