St. Joseph's Catholic Church Homeless Outreach

St. Joseph's Catholic Church Homeless Outreach The mission of this ministry is to fulfill our Lord's commandment, "As I have loved you, so you also should love one another". St.

Joseph's Catholic Church, Jacksonville, FL. This is a ministry serving the low income and those without a home or place to call home. On the 3rd Saturday of each month, rain or shine, we depart from the Mandarin Food Bank by 4:00 pm and travel to downtown Jacksonville, 368 N Newman St. which is the parking lot of the First United Methodist Church. Due to COVID-19, all volunteers are wearing masks

and gloves. Those we are serving are offered free masks. Food is prebagged, and precautions are taken with the hot meal distribution. Our volunteers provide a hot meal, snacks, toiletry items, bottled drinks, clothing, devotions, and a spirit of God's love and encouragement. On the 2nd Saturday, we partner with St. Justin Martyr Orthodox Church to the same location downtown, departing by 4:00 pm. We deliver a hot meal, bottled drinks, sandwiches, and snacks. Donations can be dropped off during the week to the Mandarin Food Bank (with a note that the donation is for the COURGE WITH HOPE MINISTRY). For more information on how you can help, please contact Angela Fisher, [email protected]. Any financial donations can be sent to the St. Joseph's Parish Office, attention Courage with Hope Outreach, or Homeless Ministry.

It’s been getting warmer as the months pass, but our volunteers show up because they are needed. Well done and I hope everyone takes care as summer approaches.

As summer heat approaches, we see a different mix of people we serve.

The lines continue to get longer, more new faces each month. We’re very grateful to our volunteers who help wherever they can.

The August Outreach started out as hot as the last few, but then some gentle rain fell and cooled things a bit. Our volunteers had meals, snacks, soap, and clothing to distribute. And lots of cool water.

The July Outreach was sweltering, with the « feels like » temperature reaching 109. I pray that those we served were able to find a cool place to rest. Our volunteers were steadfast and served until there were no more.
