9 In fact, James, Peter, and John, who were known as pillars of the church, recognized the gift God had given me, and they accepted Barnabas and me as their co-workers. They encouraged us to keep preaching to the Gentiles, while they continued their work with the Jews. ~ Galatians 2:9
We began our study of the apostle Paul’s letter to the churches at Galatia this past Sunday. How inspiring are his words to a group of Believers who seemed vulnerable to a different gospel? And while the letter wasn’t written to us, it was most definitely written for us, by virtue of our becoming Believers in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
One thing is for sure, Paul wanted to preach the gospel to everyone in earshot. He carried as much zeal and boldness he previously had as a persecutor of Christ’s followers, to tell others about the life-changing power he had experienced on the road to Damascus. It’s the same power available to each of us today!
This coming Sunday, we’ll continue into the second chapter of Galatians. It’s not a long chapter, but it gets into great detail of authority, confrontation and following the Holy Spirit. One surprising note is the conflict that arose regarding the Gentile believers following Christ.
As I mentioned this past Sunday, the Judaizers were attempting to force the newly believing Gentiles to become Jews, including circumcision. Paul vehemently argued against this step back. Paul was adamant that the gospel of Jesus Christ was given by grace, ONLY, and it provided freedom from the obligatory rituals of the Torah. We’ll read Luke’s account of the debate in the book of Acts on Sunday as well. Come prepared with your Bibles and something to take notes.
I invite you to invite a friend of other family member to come with you Sunday. In fact, come early in time for breakfast and Pastor Rick Bopp’s Route 52 class on Revelation. Don’t miss!
Peace,
Pastor Rocky Morris
