And then it was “Game On” at the annual church picnic. Pastor put a new twist on it by combining BINGO with the Exchange Game. Bingo winners had their choice of gifts that could be “exchanged” if they spotted a gift another person had won! Plenty of laughs…

The annual church picnic on a sunny 90* Sunday at ORLC. Pastor served as “the griller” with plenty of sides, desserts and drinks in the air conditioned fellowship hall. August 30, 2026.

We’re adding something new to our Annual Church Picnic on August 30th. It’s called the Exchange Game and I’m pretty sure most of you know it from family or work Christmas parties.

A gift exchange is a fun party game where guests bring wrapped, anonymous gifts to a common pool, draw numbers to determine the order of play, and take turns unwrapping or stealing gifts from one another.

Basic Rules
Bring a gift: Each person brings one wrapped item, new or used, within an agreed-upon price limit $5.

Draw numbers: Players pick numbers from a hat to decide their turn order.

First turn: Player #1 opens a gift from the central pile.

Subsequent turns: Players can choose to unwrap a new gift or steal an already opened gift from someone else.

The steal rule: If your gift is stolen, you can steal from someone else or open a new gift.

Steal limits: Gifts can usually only be stolen a maximum of 3 times before they are "safe".

Popular Variations
Players limit: Some groups rule that a specific person can only be targeted for a set number of steals.

Player #1 privilege: The person who drew #1 gets a final chance at the end of the game to swap their item for any open gift in the room.
