St. Porphyrios Greek Orthodox Church

St. Porphyrios Greek Orthodox Church St. Porphyrios Orthodox Church is an Eastern Orthodox Christian Church based out of Jacksonville, NC. It is biblical and sacramental. Amen.

We are a group who began attending services on the military base and are now establishing a permanent location off base. The Eastern Orthodox Christian Church is the original church established by Jesus Christ. It is evangelical, but not Protestant. It is orthodox, but not Jewish. It is catholic, but not Roman. It isn't denominational, but it is pre-denominational. The Orthodox Church and its memb

ers have believed, taught, preserved, defended and died for the Faith since the Day of Pentecost almost 2,000 years ago. The Eastern Orthodox Church is one of the oldest religious institutions in the world, teaching that it is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church established in His Great Commission to the Apostles, and practicing the original faith passed down from the Apostles. We are Christians who believe in the divinity and sinlessness of Christ, His death, burial and resurrection and the undivided Holy Trinity...summarized in the Nicene Creed:

I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages;

Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father through Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried;

And He rose on the third day,according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heavenand is seated at the right hand of the Father;

And He will come again with glory to judge the living and dead. His kingdom shall have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Creator of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke through the prophets. In one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Our parish celebrated the Kneeling Service immediately following Divine Liturgy today. During the reading of these prayers by the priest, the faithful kneel for the first time in 50 days. It marks the return of liturgical kneeling, which is canonically suspended from Easter until Pentecost to celebrate the victorious joy of the Resurrection. Today Orthodox Christians celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit as described in the Acts of the Apostles.

A big weekend for the community at St Porphyrios. Immediately following celebrating the Divine Liturgy we were able to recognize the commitment to service of our parishioners.

Patrick, a member of the parish, was able to be brought back into the Navy by our parish priest and retired chaplain Fr Basil.

On the same day we were able to recognize Simon and present him with an icon of our patron Saint Porphyrios as he bears the end of his honorable service in the Marine Corps.

We look forward to seeing what the future holds for them and their families as they continue a life of service to their communities and representing the orthodox faith !
