Welcome to the Diocese of St. Augustine’s Jail & Prison Ministry page where we work to instill in the people and their families who suffer the effects of incarceration, as well as victims, the human dignity endowed on all people created in the image and likeness of God to reach the Diocesan vision, “that we may all be one.”
Our mission is to bear the burdens (Gal 6:1-3) of the least brothers and sisters of Christ (MT 25:40) by sharing of our time, talent, and treasure, demonstrating our union in Christ by Whose Grace restores stolen human dignity in the incarcerated, those being released, and victims in our Diocese to see themselves as beloved sons and daughters of God, to know love, be loved, and to know Him, Who is love.
Please help us minister to our brothers and sisters first by praying 🙏🏻 for all of the incarcerated, their families, victims of crime, conversion of souls, their ability to freely practice the faith, to overcome addiction, history of abuse, distrust in others, unforgiveness of self and others, all who are serving a life sentence, those on death row, and for an end to the death penalty, an an end to abortion in which is so closely related.
Next, please pray to see where and how the Lord may be calling you to serve with your time, first and foremost, your talent, and your treasure.
There are a number of ways to get involved including; cell front ministry, chapel ministry, helping provide the Sacraments (Mass, Liturgy of the Word, Communion Service, and Reconciliation), Sacrament Prep or RCIA, Bible Study, religious materials, evangelizing, counseling, letter writing, helping to develop parish teams as well as organizing and coordinating visits, assisting inmates who are about to be released or former incarcerated to transition to halfway houses, safe environments, supportive faith communities, and/or jobs and job security. Many of these inmates come out with little to no possessions including; clothes, toiletries, hygiene products, transportation, a safe place to live, and all daily survival necessities until they’re back on their feet.
Thirdly, please pray for an increase of volunteers to this ministry; both clergy and lay ministers, to help bear the burdens of the incarcerated in our 38 prisons and 17 county jails.
Finally, please say hi, tell us which parish you’re from, and invite at least 2 brothers and sisters to this page to help raise awareness of this beautiful ministry.
This is a Diocesan page, so if you have a question, a need, or any information you wish to share regarding this ministry, please share with all to better allow us to fill the needs of the many!
The peace of Christ be with you all!
