Fear is real. It shows up in our relationships, our reputations, our health, and our desire for control. But what if fear is actually a strategy - one designed to stop God's work in your life?

This week we explored Nehemiah 6 and discovered that fear, at its core, is the threat of loss. Nehemiah faced relentless attacks on his status, his reputation, and his life - and yet, he kept building. His secret? Pursuing God's glory over his own, standing firm in truth, and refusing to let fear justify compromise.

Here is the greatest truth about fear: you already know the outcome. Because of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the enemy has already been defeated. As 1 John 4:4 reminds us, the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. You are not watching a live game. You are watching a replay, and you have already won.

What if the greatest threat to a thriving community is not an outside enemy, but greed from within? In Nehemiah 5, we see how "disadvantaging others to advantage self" fractures families, divides communities, and robs people of dignity and life.

But there is another way. Nehemiah models radical generosity - disadvantaging himself to advantage others - driven by the fear of God and compassion for people. That same pattern runs straight through the cross, where Jesus gave up everything so we could receive everything.

True human flourishing begins when awe of God moves us toward generosity with our time, money, and possessions. As one pastor reflected on a homeless woman who kept giving away her vouchers: "To only receive and never give back is to be belittled." We were made to participate in the movement of God's own generosity.

Have you ever felt so overwhelmed by opposition that you were ready to give up? In Nehemiah 4, God's people faced ridicule, threats, and exhaustion while rebuilding Jerusalem's wall. Sound familiar?

This week's message reminded us of three powerful truths: opposition is a sign of God's favor, not his absence. When attacks come, remember they are ultimately aimed at God, not you. And when you are ready to quit, God fights for you through the people around you.

Just as a fellow prisoner drawing a cross in the dirt gave Alexander Solzhenitsyn the courage to press on, a simple prayer, a meal, or a word of encouragement can be the very way God fights for someone in their darkest moment. Our God is great and awesome, and he rallies his people around those who are struggling.

If you missed Sunday's message or want to share it with someone facing opposition, watch it on our app or website. And consider joining a discipleship group this fall, because we were never meant to fight alone.
