Knowing + Being Known

Christ Church Beaches is a new congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America gathering in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. We are part of a family of churches in Jacksonville together with Christ Church East, Christ Church InTown, and Christ Church Mandarin. Together we are “seeking the renewal of all things in Jesus Christ by cultivating Gospel-centered community that multiplies churches and develops partnerships in Jacksonville and around the world.”

As a church we are focused on being a place where we can know and be known. This knowing is more than intellectual. It is relational. We long to know and be known by Jesus, know and be known by one another, and know and be known by our community. In addition to gathering together on Sunday morning to remind one another of the person and work of Jesus in worship, we also meet up in community groups scattered throughout the Jacksonville Beaches. These groups operate like small extended families, eating meals together, praying together, and spending time discussing the Bible together. We laugh together, cry together, watch our kids together, eat together, drink coffee together, pray together, and respond to Jesus together.

With regard to worship, we are casual yet focused on the person and work of Jesus. You (and your kids if you have them) should come as you are most comfortable. The pastor will usually be wearing “smart casual”, but a lot of us roll up off the beach or are headed there after. So don’t let the chapel fool you. Shorts and flip flops are always welcome at Christ Church Beaches.

With regard to beliefs and theology we identify most closely with the Reformed tradition as laid out in the Westminster Confession of Faith. The Reformed tradition mainly centers around five accents often referred to as the “solas” from the Latin word for alone and are in reference to how man is rescued from sin and misery. They are “scripture alone” (sola scriptura), by “grace alone” (sola gratia), through “faith alone” (sola fide), in “Christ alone” (solus Christus), and to “the glory of God alone” (soli deo gloria).
