OUR HISTORY
Free Mission Missionary Baptist Church was organized, September 15, 1950, at The Three Eagle Hall on Morehouse Avenue, Jackson, MS. There were a total of twenty-eight members on roll. The name, “Free Mission Missionary Baptist Church” was suggested by Sister Elizabeth McGee. It was properly moved and second that the church official name be adopted. It was decided that services would b
e held on the second and fourth Sunday of each month. The following statement was made, “We, the members of the said Church, recommend that Reverend Earlie King be the Pastor as long as he lives”. Deacons named to serve in the church were Brother Aaron Frazier, Brother Jerry Holly and Brother Floyd Adkins. The secretary and sexton for the church was Brother Floyd Adkins. Reverend R. H. McGee served as treasurer. The members continued having church services and organized Sunday School and other Auxiliaries at the Three Eagles Hall, until a plot of land could be purchased. After the purchased of the plot the church was built in its present location, 2229 Florence Avenue. With a few boards, some bricks, a few windows, and much hard work, a place of worship for the young, old, rich, and poor who passed, this was erected. Under the leadership of the late Reverend Earlie King and Reverend Eddie D. Terry, the membership increased to three hundred and ten. Across the years, under the leadership of Reverend Eddie Terry, there was a need to build a larger church to accommodate the members and their need for classrooms and other facilities. During the 1970’s, the church was again remodeled. A new kitchen, nursery and fellowship hall were added. An organ and new pews were purchased. Two pieces of property were also acquired and a third piece of property was acquired in the 1980’s. The adjoining properties are presently being used as the parking area. Membership and other acquisitions are the results of prayer, faith, love and undying determination, by dedicated men and women of this church. We pause to salute these pioneers for their efforts. Some of these members have departed from this earth, but we are sure that some members still remember them, their efforts and prayers. On May 29, 1985, Reverend O. C. George Ferrell, became the third pastor of the "Free Mission Missionary Baptist Church". Under his leadership the parking lot was expanded, resurfaced, and designated spaces for the handicapped were included. On May 31, 2001, the members elected Rev. Ronald L Patton to serve as the fourth pastor of the “Free Mission Missionary Baptist Church”. Under his leadership, services are held on each Sunday of the month. In 2004, two pieces of property, a twenty-five passenger bus and a piano were purchased. On September 5, 2000, a groundbreaking ceremony was held to build a new sanctuary and to remodel the existing sanctuary, classrooms, and kitchen. In July 2000 a set of drums were purchased. While still giving praises to the Almighty, a dedication service was held on April 1, 2007. The members marched from the old sanctuary to the new sanctuary. Today, the members continues to worship and glorify God while serving Him daily.
