God is both transcendent and immanent. He is holy, set-apart, and has an "otherness" that humanity should fear and tremble in His presence. His holiness is not to be trifled with. As an example, the rebellion of Adam and Eve in the Garden, Moses and the burning bush, Mt. Sinai, etc. Yet He still makes Himself accessible to us. He is a "God is with us" kind of God who walked with Adam and Eve, spoke to His servants in the past, and ultimately came to us in flesh in the form or His Beloved, Jesus. This creates a tension in our walk with Him. It is a healthy tension but a tension nevertheless. We are not to fear Him so much that we don't seek to have an intimate relationship with Him. Yet we are not to treat His presence and companionship in our lives casually either. Make no mistake. He is a God who comes to us, who seeks and saves that which is lost. But He is also the King and Master of everything from the universe to eternity. What an amazing and awesome God we serve that we should be called His children!
