St. Luke’s Episcopal Church begins its 2026-2027 series of monthly Choral Evensong services on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at 4:00 pm with a service commemorating Labor Day. We would love to see you there!

This traditional Anglican liturgy will feature the canticles Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis from Charles Villiers Stanford’s (1852-1924) Evening Service in G, with solos by Carrie Prewitt and David McCall, a new hymn-tune setting of the ancient Greek prayer for light, the Phos hilaron, Preces and Responses (The Tryon Service) by Richard Shephard (1949-2021), and the premiere of a new anthem, He hath made everything beautiful in his time by Jeffrey Hoffman, St. Luke’s director of music.

A synthesis of several of the evening and night time offices of the medieval monastic liturgies of the hours made practical for lay observance, Choral Evensong is perhaps the most recognizable of all Anglican liturgies, having been sung continuously in England and throughout the English-speaking world since the English Reformation, inspiring countless composers to set its canticles to music.

Congratulations to the St. Luke’s Gardeners! St. Luke’s was one of five receiving The Pillars of the Community Award.

"The annual Mayor’s Civic Pride Awards recognize individuals who take exceptional care of their properties, including well-kept yards, beautiful landscaping and/or hardscape, and overall curb appeal.

A group of Master Gardeners will judge this year’s Civic Pride nomination entries. Five individual awards and five honorable mentions will be given from five areas within the city. There will also be a Commercial, Educational, and Religious Institution category with five awards and three honorable mentions.”

St. Luke's is getting some work done!

Bathrooms near the library/parish hall will be closed this weekend to allow the floors to be polished and cleaned. In the coming weeks, the stall dividers in both will be removed, sanded, and painted as well. Thanks to our volunteers Lauren and Ashley Buxton, Jason Cole, and staff for their DIY work. Soon after, the remodel work will begin to paint and replace toilets and vanities.

Bathrooms near the narthex/front door and upstairs remain functional.

On Sunday, August 23, both our 8:00 and 10:30 services will look a little different. Instead of a sermon, we'll pause at points throughout the liturgy so a narrator can explain what we've just done, or what we're about to do, and why.

We are pleased to announce that the 45th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of West Tennessee will take place November 20-21, 2026, at Saint Luke's Episcopal Church in Jackson, Tennessee.

"For there is still a Vision for the appointed time... If it seems to tarry, wait for it; it will surely come." (Habakkuk 2:3)

While sometimes vision may come to us with immediacy, at other times being clear about what God is telling us takes time and discernment. Our diocesan leadership has been taking intentional, prayerful time since last year's convention to discern God's vision for our diocese. On Nov. 20-21 in Jackson, we will gather in community to do the business of the Church, to celebrate our various ministries with one another, and to share the vision our leadership believes God has for this appointed time in the Episcopal Diocese of West Tennessee.

St. Luke’s is once again hosting a food drive for RIFA, and this summer we are supporting their Snack Backpack program. The RIFA Snack Backpack ministry works to fill this gap by providing kid-friendly, easy-to-prepare, nutritious food items for children who are at risk of going hungry on Saturdays and Sundays.

If you would like to participate, we are asking those who are able in the Parish bring the following items on Sundays in June and July.

June 14: Pop-Tarts
June 21: Chicken Noodle Soup (pop-tops)
June 28: Ramen Noodle (no cups)
July 5: Macaroni & Cheese (individual packets/bowls)
July 12: Ravioli (pop-tops)
July 19: any of the above
