This last week of "The Host" is a culmination of conversations we have been having together for the past few weeks about hospitality, calling, and mission. However – beyond giving hospitality, answering calling, and responding to the mission of God – this calling of Jesus will always ask us to also be willing to receive the same hospitality from others.

These practices are not just about being "for" others and "for" God. These practices are about learning to be "with" others and be "with" God. These practices are about presence.

Jesus' life was profoundly local. He lived among a specific people, in a specific place, at a specific time.

For centuries, the mission and message of Jesus has called many believers to unknown destinations and distant lands. What if the calling of God is often much simpler? What if the calling of God asks us to start right where our feet already are?

In the Book of Matthew, Jesus commissions his disciples to "go and make disciples of all nations," but only after walking with them through years of ministry, healings, casting out demons, and demonstrating his love through death and resurrection.

Before he says "make disciples," he promises his Spirit – and that this Spirit will go with them into "Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

As the disciples were empowered to go and "make disciples," some were tempted to ask, "who is the greatest among us?"

Jesus reveals this is the wrong kind of question to ask.

Instead, Jesus invites his followers to embrace a new kind of power – a power not simply found the miracles, healings, or strength... but a power discovered in the midst of weakness.

Jesus was always eating with people.

Friends. Outsiders. People others avoided. People who didn't fit neatly into the accepted categories of his world.

And every time Jesus sat with someone, he communicated something powerful:

I see you.
You matter.
There is room for you here.

This week, we explored Jesus' hospitality and an invitation that can be surprisingly difficult to accept ourselves.

As we learn how to make room for others, maybe we also have to believe that Jesus has already made room for us.

He chooses to sit with us.
He knows us.
And he desires our presence.

Your newsfeed can dump the burdens of the entire world on you before breakfast.

And if you're exhausted by it all, you're probably not alone.

This week, we talked about calling—and the possibility that God hasn't asked you to carry everything.

Most of the time, calling isn't some enormous assignment waiting somewhere in the future. It's being faithful with the life you've already been given.

Your people.
Your resources.
Your neighborhood.
Your community.
The things right in front of you.

Maybe you don't need to figure out how to save the world.

Maybe the invitation is to pay attention to where your feet are.

Some parts of your life are too precious to hand to just anyone.

Your grief. Your doubts. Your fears. Your shame. Your hopes.
The things you're still trying to figure out.

Jesus once used the image of pearls to talk about things that are precious—and the importance of being careful where we place them.

That's an interesting invitation in a world where technology isn't only competing for our attention anymore. Increasingly, it's becoming a place we turn for companionship, advice, emotional support, and questions about meaning and purpose.

So this week in Look T(Here), we're asking:

Who gets your pearls?

And what might it look like for the church to become the kind of community where people can safely entrust those precious parts of themselves to one another?

Your attention is valuable.
So valuable, in fact, that an entire economy has been built around capturing it. But this isn't just a conversation about phones, social media, or screen time. It's a conversation about who we're becoming. Because where our attention goes, our desires follow. And where our desires go, our lives tend to follow. Sometimes we need a reset.
Not another goal. Not another thing to accomplish. Just some space to pay attention.
This Sunday was a little different at Westwinds. We slowed things down and spent our gathering sitting with three questions...
We heard stories from people in our community. We prayed. We confessed. We gathered around Jesus' table. And we made room to notice what God might already be doing in the middle of our actual lives.
