Jackson Insight Meditation Group

Jackson Insight Meditation Group We practice a form of Buddhist meditation called Vipassana or Insight practice. Metta practice Mon. 6p-7p. Meditation & discussion Wed. 6:15p-7:45p.

The Jackson Insight Meditation Group practices a form of Buddhist meditation called Vipassana or Insight practice. We use recorded talks by teachers mostly from the Seattle Insight Meditation Society's website www.seattleinsight.org. The Insight group meets regularly each Wednesday night from 6:30- 8 PM and also each Monday from 6- 7 PM. On Monday we do a Metta or "loving-kindness" practice, whi

ch is a guided practice- for the second half of the hour, for the first half we sit in silent meditation. This is a good place to start if you are a beginner. Basic instruction in settling the mind and body can be offered during the Monday meeting. If you are new to meditation and would like to join the group, you are welcome to come to the Monday Metta practice and you can message us here to set up a one to one meeting at the Dojo for basic meditation instruction. Insight Meditation or Vipassanna is a Buddhist tradition that comes from Southeast Asia. It is well established in this country with centers in many major cities. There are many American teachers in this tradition that began their practices decades ago and are now seasoned and mature teachers. Our group follows talks by Rodney Smith, the resident teacher for the Insight Meditation Center of Seattle Washington and talks by other teachers featured by the Seattle Insight Meditation Society, www.seattleinsight.org. On Wednesday nights we sit for 45 minutes and either listen to a recorded Dharma talk or we have a discussion of the talk we heard the week before. We have found that without grounding in the basic teaching and/or prior experience with practice, people often have difficulty understanding the practice and sometimes give up rather quickly. If you are a beginner and want to learn about meditation practice, we recommend spending some time with an Introductory Course. There are several available online. We recommend one by Rodney Smith www.seattleinsight.org or one by Tara Branch, available on her website, www.tarabranch.com. It will give you the best start possible.

“My mind has no peace as yet! I beg you, master, please pacify my mind!”

“Bring your mind here and I will pacify it for you,” replied Bodhidharma.

“I have searched for my mind, and I cannot take hold of it,” said the Second Patriarch.

“Now your mind is pacified,” said Bodhidharma.

You are invited to join the Jackson Insight Mindfulness Meditation group at the Jackson Meditation Dojo on the Wolfe Studio grounds.

Mondays 6 PM- 7 PM : Meditation and guided Metta practice.

Wednesdays 6:15- 7:45 PM. Wednesday meetings begin with a meditation practice period-
accompanied by audio guidance.
This Wednesday's offering is from Tara Brach:
https://www.tarabrach.com/meditation-forgiving-freeing-hearts/
Forgiveness for others becomes possible when we’ve held our own being with great compassion. This short talk and guided meditation brings forth our most awake and tender presence as we ask for forgiveness, offer care to the woundedness within us, and then extend forgiveness to another who has hurt us.
We follow meditation with a time for sharing thoughts,
joys, difficulties and questions about meditation practice,
and how it is working (or not) in daily life. The sharing/discussion period offers an opportunity to listen deeply to one another while also paying attention to what arises in oneself.
Confidentiality is honored.

(Participation does not require speaking- mindful listening is enough.)

From time to time short readings will be offered as topics of reflection and discussion.

Meetings will close with a short sitting and guided loving-kindness practice.

The group is open at this time, and you may invite others to attend.

Dana/Contributions

Thank you for your contributions which make the Jackson Insight Meditation Group possible. In the Insight Meditation tradition

the Buddha's teachings are offered freely to all, with an invitation for all people to offer voluntary donations, or Dana. An ancient Pali word meaning "gift,” Dana refers to the practice of generosity.

Your contributions help maintain our dojo building, paying rent, utilities and other expenses. In addition, it is our group's intention to send an annual Dana contribution in gratitude to the teachers whose audio dharma talks we study. No set amount is required, any and all contributions are welcome.
