Sunday was Trinity Sunday, a day we reflect on one of the deepest mysteries of our faith: God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. While the Trinity can be difficult to explain, Jesus reminds us that it is not merely a doctrine to understand but a relationship to experience.
In John’s Gospel Philip asks Jesus, “Show us the Father,” and Jesus responds by pointing him not to a new revelation but to the relationship he is already participating in: “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” Jesus teaches that knowing God is not about mastering information about God; it is about abiding in God. To know God is to dwell in Christ, to remain in his love, and to allow God to make a home within us.
One of the most memorable insights I’ve ever had about God came from a simple conversation with my children years ago. When asked who God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are, they replied: “God the Father makes everything for everybody. Jesus comes to us and looks at us. The Holy Spirit wakes us up.” Out of the mouth of babes, indeed! Their words capture a profound truth! God does provide for us, Jesus sees us and loves us, and the Holy Spirit awakens us to God’s presence in our daily lives. The SAME God who created us, came to us in Christ, AND continues to move among us through the Spirit inviting us into an ever-deepening relationship of love and belonging.
In a world where so many people feel anxious, disconnected, and spiritually homeless, Jesus continues to offer the same invitation: “Abide in me.” The Trinity is the home our souls have been searching for all along. As we abide in Christ, we discover that God has already drawn near, already made a home with us, and is already at work shaping us into a people who reflect divine love to the world.
May we continue to dwell more deeply in God’s presence and extend that same grace, welcome, and belonging to one another.
Life Application Questions:
☑️ Where have you been searching for security, belonging, or “home” apart from God?
☑️ How have you experienced the Father providing, Jesus seeing, or the Holy Spirit awakening you recently?
☑️ What would it look like for you to more intentionally abide in God’s presence this week?
Abiding with you,
