Dear Church Member
After much prayer, thought and much discussion the Conway UMC Church Council voted to move forward with the Disaffiliation on August 9, 2022. Church Conference for Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church on September 25, 2022 at 5:00pm to be held at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Our District Superintendant will preside over this Church Conference.
This letter is the call, to give notice of the called Church Conference to all Professing members. The sole purpose of the Church Conference is to vote on disaffiliation from The United Methodist Church.
The decision to disaffiliate from The United Methodist Church must be approved by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of the professing members of the local church present at the Church Conference, ¶2553.3.
The below motion is provided for the Church Conference Vote required under NCC Disaffiliation Process Step 4: Church Conference Votes to Approve Disaffiliation by 2/3 Majority.
“Along with prayerful consideration and discussion, we have followed the disaffiliation process on the NC Conference website and properly completed the Preliminary Disaffiliation Agreement with amounts payable, Exhibit B, and other details. Our Church Council voted to request our district superintendent to call this Church Conference. We understand that to disaffiliate at least two-thirds (2/3) of the professing members present at this church conference must vote to do so by written ballots. This vote is being presided over by the District Superintendent, who shall participate in the counting of the votes and announce the results of the vote, and the results must be documented and certified by an authorized officer of the church. This move is to disaffiliate from The United Methodist Church “for reasons of conscience regarding a change in the requirements and provisions of the Book of Discipline related to the practice of homosexuality or the ordination or marriage of self-avowed practicing homosexuals as resolved and adopted by the 2019 General Conference, or the actions or inactions of its annual conference related to these issues which follow.” A vote for disaffiliation will include completing the entire disaffiliation process on the NC Conference website and complying with all terms of the NCC Disaffiliation Agreement. A vote against disaffiliation will require no additional action from this church at this time.”
Again this letter is to announce a Called Church Conference on September 25, 2022 at 5:00 pm at Pleasant Grove UMC 2484 Jackson By-Pass Road Jackson, NC 27845.
