We want to share the good news of Jesus Christ and to show our church's love by witnessing, loving, and serving. Our History: Who We Are and What We Believe
United Christian Church has stood the test of time and its story is recorded in the annals of Disciples church history. There have been a cadre of founders, spiritual leaders; both full-time and interim, and members who conceived, built, an
d nurtured the concept of two churches uniting over sixty-four years ago. On October 22, 1956 the College Addition Christian Church, (now United Christian Church) and the North Jackson Christian Church merged. United Christian Church was the first church established at the recommendation of the Mississippi Christian Missionary Convention to serve a predominantly African American community in the State’s capital city. It is that same love, hope, and faith that sustains the church today. Our faith is built upon the principles in the Bible and we utilize it as our guide for Christian living and faith. The two ordinances of the church are baptism by immersion in water and the weekly celebration of communion in remembrance of Christ and his life on earth. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us. We are affiliated with the Disciples of Christ churches (U.S.A.) and The Great River Region. As such, our local church works autonomously and cooperatively by developing its own programs, mission, staff, and finances. Our mission is “To Share the Good News of Jesus Christ, witnessing, loving and serving from our doorsteps to the end of the earth – Acts 1:8.” Our spiritual leader is Pastor Rufus Edwards, a godly man who embraces a vision to be a faithful, growing church that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spiritualism, and a passion for justice. Come! worship with us.
