Good morning. Thank you for joining us in Clonard Monastery, Belfast for this time of prayer at the beginning of Easter Sunday, April 5th. It is lovely having you here praying with us and for us. May God bless you and your family and friends with the joy of Christ’s resurrection.

“Christ is risen, alleluia”! This is the ancient Christian greeting on this day of great joy and happiness for all. Easter is not simply one feast among others but it is‘The feast of feasts’. The mystery of the Resurrection, in which Christ crushed death, permeates with its powerful energy our old time, until all is subjected to him.

A Word of God from today’s Mass:
“The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
This is the work of the Lord,
a marvel in our eyes.
Psalm 117

Good morning. Thank you for joining us in Clonard Monastery, Belfast for this time of prayer at the beginning of Tuesday, March 17, the great feast of St. Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland. It is lovely having you here praying with us and for us. May God fill you and all of us with the joy of our faith.

St. Patrick was born very probably in the early years of the 5th century in the Roman colony of Britain. He was taken captive at the age of 16 and brought to Ireland where he was sold as a slave. He tended herds on Slemish mountain for 6 years. His captivity had a very positive effect on his spiritual life. He prayed many times each day, his faith growing stronger and his love and reverence for God increasing. He escaped back home at the age of 22. It was obvious to him that God was calling him to return to convert the Irish. After studying probably in France, he returned to Ireland as a Bishop around 457-461 or, according to another tradition as early as 432. He died in 491, or again other dates have been suggested: 480, or as early as 461.

A Word of God from today’s Mass:

“Jesus said: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the biggest shrub of all and becomes a tree so that the birds of the air come and shelter in its branches’.”
Matthew 13, 31-32

Prayer of St. Brendan
by Andy Raine

Lord, I will trust You.
help me to journey beyond the familiar
and into the unknown.

Give me the faith to leave old ways
and break fresh ground with You.

Christ of the mysteries, can I trust You
to be stronger than each storm within me?

Do I still yearn for Your glory to lighten on me?

I will show others the care You’ve given me.

I determine amidst all uncertainty
always to trust.

I choose to live beyond regret,
and let You recreate my life.

I believe You will make a way for me
and provide for me,
if only I trust You
and obey.

I will trust in the darkness and know
that my times are still in Your hand.

I will believe You for my future,
chapter by chapter, until all the story is written.

Focus my mind and my heart upon You,
my attention always on You without alteration.

Strengthen me with Your blessing
and appoint to me the task.

Teach me to live with eternity in view.

Tune my spirit to the music of heaven.

Feed me,
and, somehow,
make my obedience count for You.

(November 15. Celtic and Orthodox Advent begins.)

I arise today through a mighty strength,
the invocation of the Trinity,
through belief in the Threeness,
through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation. (St. Patrick, 433 AD)

This I believe.
