First Presbyterian Church of Irvington

First Presbyterian Church of Irvington "Carrying on Christ’s mission: Teach, Feed, Heal."

2026: The Year to Equip the Saints (Ephesians 4:12-16) In 1948 it was renamed First Presbyterian Church.

Our Church was founded in 1896 as Manhattan Park Presbyterian Church and served as Church Home for German and Polish Immigrants in the then Village of Irvington. It’s now mostly immigrants of African descent and continues to serve the faith and service needs of the community. A new generation, but still carrying on the Mission and Ministry in the name of Jesus Christ.

Every Thursday, we gather to study the scriptures that will be used for Sunday’s message. It’s a great way to gain deeper understanding of God’s word.

Check out this week’s scripture & questions below 👇

Genesis 12:1-9
1. Why do you think God didn’t tell Abram up front where he would be going?
2. What do you believe was the most difficult thing for Abram to do in response to God’s command?
3. List the promises made to Abram in (Gen. 12:2-3, 7).
4. In what 3 places did Abram build altars? And what was the significance of that? Why do you think Abram built altars instead of using the shrines already present at each spot?

Romans 4:13-25
1. Did Abram have to wait for the promises to be filled? Did his “waiting” dissolve his faith? Look up (Heb. 11:13, Rom. 4:17-22). What effect has waiting had on your faith in the past? What can we learn from the verses listed above about faith that endures the wait?
2. How many different phrases can you find in Rom. 4:16-22 that describe the strength of Abraham’s faith? How do these different angles on Abraham’s faith each contribute to a full picture of strong faith?
3. How did Abraham demonstrate his faith? (19-21)
4. For whose sake was the example of Abraham’s faith written? (23-24)

BONUS QUESTION:
V 22-what verse is this from?
