At Friedens United Church of Christ in Irvington, IL we love without judgment! No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey…all are welcome in our church family. For over 125 years we have been spreading the love of Christ in Southern Illinois and throughout the world. At Friedens we recognize that the Bible can be confusing at times…contradictory, cryptic, and may even cause us to disagree…and that is OK! We realize that our faith journeys are very personal and may bring individuals to varying beliefs. These individual faith journeys are what make our relationship with God meaningful and allow us to learn and share the abundant love of Jesus Christ.

Bible Stories with Judy - Abraham Trusts God - Genesis 12:1-9; 15:5

Hi friends! Today Judy is sharing the story of Abraham, a man who packed up everything he knew and followed God into the unknown.

God came to Abraham and asked him to leave his home, his country, and everything familiar, and go to a new land that God would show him. God made Abraham a wonderful promise too: that he would become the father of a great family, and that through him, the whole world would be blessed. Abraham didn't know exactly where he was going, but he trusted God and went anyway. Later, when Abraham wondered how such a big promise could really come true, God took him outside at night and told him to look up at the stars. Just as many stars as filled the sky, that's how many people would one day come from Abraham's family.

This story reminds us that:

- Trusting God sometimes means taking a first step before we can see the whole path
- God's promises are big, even bigger than we can imagine
- It's okay to have questions, and it's okay to still trust while we're wondering
- Being a blessing to others is part of what God calls us to

Scripture: Genesis 12:1 to 9; 15:5

Question to talk about after: Has God ever asked you to try something new or brave?

Bible Stories with Judy - Noah Thanks God - Genesis 8:13-9:17

Hi friends! Today Judy is sharing the story of what happened when Noah and his family finally stepped out of the ark onto dry land.

After all those months of waiting, God told Noah it was time to come out, along with his family and every single animal. The earth was fresh and ready for life to begin again. The very first thing Noah did was build an altar and thank God for keeping them safe. And God made a beautiful promise: never again would a flood destroy the whole earth. As a sign of that promise, God placed a rainbow in the sky, a reminder for every person, in every generation, that God's love and care would always be there.

This story reminds us that:

- Saying thank you matters, especially after God brings us through something hard
- God keeps promises, even the really big ones
- A rainbow can be a sign of hope and a reminder we are loved
- God's promises are for everyone, for all of creation, not just a few

Scripture: Genesis 8:13 to 9:17

Question to talk about after: What's something you're thankful for today?
