A Resurrection Reflection
Philippians 3:10-11 AMPC
10 [For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope] 11 That if possible I may attain to the [spiritual and moral] resurrection [that lifts me] out from among the dead [even while in the body].
Apostle Paul, one of the greatest contenders of faith but a humble servant of the Lord, self described as the 'least of the saints'; 'worst of sinners' made one thing clear in this passage - having experienced a one-on-one physical encounter with the Lord at the gate of Damascus, Paul writes - 'Oh that I may know Him' translated as 'my determined purpose in life is that I may progressively, deeply and intimately acquaint with Him.'
What is there to know more about Jesus Christ? Paul answers, "I perceive who He is - the King of Glory; I recognize Him - as Lord and Savior; I understand the wonders of His person more strongly and clearly" now that I have a slight grasp of His triune being.
But, wait just a minute! In the same way I perceive, recognize and understand Him, I also want to know more about this awesome, supernatural, unstoppable and undeniable dynamo; a power that was unleashed from Joseph's tomb in Jerusalem, over 2000+ years ago, one which continues even to this very hour, exerting over every believer. This resurrection power has not lost its energy nor has it ever been interrupted but has been constant throughout the ages, transforming, purging, restoring, healing and overflowing in the life of one that believes.
This power, however would not have been possible had it not been for those precious moments of agony, pain and suffering, our Lord endured on our behalf commencing in the garden of Gethsemane, through the courthouse of Pilate, via Dolorosa and onto that hill called Golgotha (Calvary). There He endured the shame and curse on our behalf, of one being hung on a cross between two thieves.
To be a recipient of that power, I must recognize and realize how the source of that power came to being. There was a crucible experience during which the primary source of that resurrection power was generated as a result of the Lord's suffering in His physical body. His suffering was above and beyond the breaking point any human being could encapsulate within their physical body. Foreseeing the degree of pain He would endure, Jesus asked the Father, 'if possible, please allow my entrance into this crucible pass, but nonetheless, not My will but Thy will be done.'
Paul said that 'I may so share His sufferings', so I can be molded and conformed to His likeness. Paul whilst confined in the prison cell hearing the ex*****oner sharpen the blade readied for his ex*****on, he knew the suffering he would endure would never be anything compared to that of His Master. But, nonetheless he wants to partake in the Master's suffering so he could be continually transformed in the spirit into His likeness, even if it means he may be executed like His Master unto death. Paul is confident that it is all accomplished through hope that the power of Christ's resurrection will also be transferred into my life, even if I surrender to death, that I will be resurrected through the power of Christ.
But, I thank God for Jesus Christ, who through His death, burial and resurrection, has resurrected me from spiritual and moral death from amongst the unbelievers who are dead spiritually and has granted me eternal life while I am still alive in my body (Ephesians 5:2). But soon my physical body will die but I look forward to that glorious day when my corruptible body will be raised and transformed into an incorruptible body to reign with the one who gave His life for me! "Thanks be unto God, who gives us the victory, making us conquerors through our Lord Jesus Christ," because of His resurrection!
Live, hope and reign in the power of His resurrection! Because He lives, I can face tomorrow!
Blessings!
