During our final week in Hebrews, Camille encouraged us to keep running the race that is required when we put our faith in Jesus. Knowing that this race is not easy, she reminded us that we do not run it alone; that Jesus is “the guide marking the way to go as we run” and that “God has given us the gift of discipline and other people to journey with.”

To hear Camille’s full talk on Hebrews 12 and 13, including her powerful exhortation to the spiritual mothers in the room, visit the IBC YouTube Channel or the Women at IBC podcast on Apple or Spotify.

Last week we had the privilege of hearing from Julie Wilding as she shared insights into Hebrews 11 - Consider the Faithful. Looking back at the enduring faith of those who came before us, Julie reminded us that “Faith in God that produces the endurance to continue to do the will of God is a gift from God.” She left us to consider two questions:

1. How is your endurance tank? Are you in need of endurance or are you running with endurance?
2. We weren’t made to run the race alone - who might you ask to surround and help you?

Check out the IBC YouTube Channel or the Women at IBC Podcast on Apple or Spotify to hear Julie’s full lesson!

In taking us through Hebrews 10, Courtney reminded us that because Jesus is the Better Sacrifice, we have access to God; we can put unwavering hope in Jesus; and we are made to be in community — with God and with one another. Continuing with these points, she challenged us to reflect on three questions:

What would change in your life if you found regular moments to be in God’s presence?
What hope do you need to hold onto right now?
What does it look like for you to draw near to God’s people?

This week Camille shared how Jesus is the Better Tabernacle. She raised the question, “Why does it matter that Jesus is the better tabernacle?” going on to explain that “it matters because in the Old Testament, before Jesus, the tabernacle was the only way for a Holy God to dwell with a sinful people.” Unlike Jesus’ sacrifice made once, for all, the tabernacle was limited, impersonal, and imperfect, allowing access to God only once a year and only for one person. “The tabernacle could only cleanse the outside. Jesus cleanses the inside.”

To hear more about the great gift of having access to God through Jesus, listen to Camille’s talk on the IBC YouTube Channel or through the Women at IBC podcast on Apple or Spotify.

On Tuesday, we heard from Betsy as she spoke on Hebrews 7 & 8 where we learn that Jesus is the Better Hope and Covenant. “Through His death and resurrection, He made a way for us to come close, not once a year, not through someone else, but always. This new covenant is built on better promises.” What are those better promises?

Complete forgiveness
A transformed heart
Unlimited access to God’s presence

Alice returned this week with a challenging, yet encouraging, message on the importance and necessity of maturing in our faith. In walking us through Hebrews 6, Alice helped us to understand Jesus as the Better Promise and what it means for us to continually pursue a deeper relationship with him.

“You don’t get to maturity by following rules or striving in your own strength. You get there by staying close to Jesus because the ultimate goal is becoming like him...Genuine faith is not static. It’s dynamic because it’s a relationship with Jesus that keeps developing over time and moves forward to maturity.”

Checkout the IBC YouTube Channel or the Women at IBC Podcast on Apple or Spotify to hear Alice’s message in its entirety. Teachings are made available each week on Thursdays.

During this week’s Women’s Bible Study, Sissy spoke on the ways that Jesus is the Better High Priest, breaking down the qualifications of the high priest role to show how Jesus goes above and beyond to fulfill them. She emphasized that as the better High Priest, “[Jesus] doesn’t just get us, He saves us...He doesn’t just understand your weakness, He carries it. He doesn’t just empathize with your struggle, He overcomes it.” Because of this, we are called not to be passive about our faith, but to hold firm, draw near, and grow beyond spiritual infancy.

Yesterday we heard from Alice as she helped us dive deeper into what it means for Jesus to be Better than Moses, for Him to be where we find true rest. She reminded us that choosing faith and obedience is a daily choice - and encouraged each of us to “hold on to [Jesus] because he is holding on to you.” Alice left us with these three practical ways we can live out our faith in Jesus and seek to fully rest in Him:

Affirm your faith and gratitude every day.
Stay connected with your faith community.
Stay in the Word.

This week’s message will be available Thursday, 10/2 on the IBC YouTube Channel and through the Women at IBC podcast on Apple or Spotify.

This week’s Women’s Bible Study teaching by Jen Weaver focused on all the ways Jesus is “Better than Angels”. While most of us may not struggle with worshipping angels today, Jen pointed out that there are other practices, traditions, or even people we can easily drift into giving our attention to over Jesus. Because of this temptation, we were challenged to reflect on the question “What does it look like for you to pay much closer attention?” - closer attention to where our gaze, and therefore our heart, is drawn.
