The Collect for the Vigil of the Ascension

Almighty God, who by thy holy Apostle hast taught us to set our affection on things above: grant us so to labour in this life, as ever to be mindful of our citizenship in those heavenly places whither our Saviour Christ is gone before; to whom, with thee, O Father, and thee, O Holy Spirit, be all honour and glory, world without end. Amen.

Dear faithful of St. John Henry Newman,

We have joyful news to share with you. Our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV announced this morning that he will confer the title of Doctor of the Church on our holy patron, St. John Henry Newman! Newman will be the 38th Doctor of the Church.

Bishop Lopes shared in a message this morning that Newman “is part of our patrimony, part of our identity in the Ordinariate. The significance of this title conferred on a Saint is precisely in its universality. The Pope is declaring that Newman‘s doctrinal contribution to the life of the Church—his particular way of expressing the faith in English—does not belong to one specific time or culture or linguistic context. He is, in the language of Anglicanorum coetibus, a treasure to be shared. This is the way patrimony works, by enrichment. This is the way the Ordinariate is meant to work.”

This Sunday and the following, our parish will pray a solemn Te Deum at the 11:00am Mass in thanksgiving for this declaration as well as bless the faithful individually with our 1st class relic.
