Sometimes the hardest reflection is not, “Who hurt me?”
Sometimes it is, “Have I been hurting someone too?”
That question is not meant to produce shame.
It is an invitation to pause.
To look inward.
To become honest about the patterns we may have learned, repeated, or defended without fully understanding their impact.
Maybe control was modeled as protection.
Maybe harshness was called honesty.
Maybe silence was called keeping the peace.
But what feels familiar to us can still be painful to the people we love.
Our past may help explain our behavior, but it does not have to determine what happens next.
There is grace in becoming aware.
There is courage in taking responsibility.
There is healing in being willing to change.
And there is hope in knowing that the cycle can stop with us.
This week, ask someone you trust:
“Is there anything I do that makes you feel controlled, silenced, afraid, or emotionally unsafe?”
Then listen to understand, not to defend.
Healing is not only available to the person who was hurt.
Healing is also available to the person who is ready to stop causing hurt. 🤍
