Breaking News!
Vietnam's Ministry of culture and information yesterday issued new law that many considered as a legal corridor on internet defamation. The new law also view by many scholars as a direct result of the actions by Mrs. Phuong Hang Nguyen, CEO of Dai Nam Group. Mrs. Nguyen took to public forum three months ago to accuse Mr. Hoang Yen Vo, the country's famous spiritual healer of fraud. Her popularity grew daily along with her almost daily Facebook and YouTube accusations of Mr. Hoang Yen Vo's mistreatment of patients, many lead to death. Her daily and weekly livestream against Mr. Vo, viewed by millions of viewers who attracted to her outspoken and sometime vulgar language, a practice view as against social and cultural norm in Vietnam and Asia. Mrs. Nguyen's style of "take no prisoners" grew bolder and bolder as her popularity grew, her verbal attacks have no boundary, and she even attacked a freelance Vietnamese Afro-American journalist by calling him "a monkey" when he questioned her motives. Her daily and weekly verbal attacks with name calling, accusations the Vietnamese and Vietnamese American celebrities who she deemed had any association to Mr. Hoang Yen Vo. She even attacked the worship of Mother Goddesses, which was established in the 16th century as an alternative to Confucianism. Mother Goddesses worship, is an intangible cultural heritage practiced across Vietnam recognized as Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2016, Mrs. Nguyen labeled the worship as "superstition".
Last night, May 30, 2021, Mr. and Mrs. Nguyen took to the air to promise to comply with the new Ministry of culture and information's guidelines. They also promised as law obeying citizens, would trust the country's laws to take its course, something they should have done three months ago when they first made their public announcement. Stay tuned for more updates.
