Dhamma Sukha American Buddhist Forest Tradition Meditation Center

Dhamma Sukha American Buddhist Forest Tradition Meditation Center Dhamma Sukha A Buddhist American Forest Tradition Meditation Center offering retreats from spring to fall from 7-14 days in length in the practice of TWIM.

Deep in the heart of America, amongst the rolling hills and forests of the Ozarks, we humbly welcome you to the newest and rarest experience with Basic Buddhism here in America. Here, beyond the cacophonous existence and stress-filled routines of the mainstream society, Venerable Bhante U Vimalaramsi has come to teach Tranquil Wisdom Insight Meditation and (Metta) Loving Kindness Meditation in a m

anner you will be delighted you tried! In a beautiful forest retreat setting, we offer a unique opportunity for you to practice your meditation with a teacher whose clear understanding of the Pali Suttas is expressed in concise and easily grasped English. We are honored to invite you to come to the land that will be known as Jeta's Grove and to Dhamma Sukha Meditation Center located in Iron County, MO just outside of Ironton, MO. This is a different type of Buddhist experience than most you may find here in the States. Studying meditation here you may discover, for the first time, the usefulness of meditation in today's fast moving modern world, or deepen an already established personal practice by continuing it throughout each day, even when off the pillow! In Pali, Dhamma Sukha means "Happy Teachings". By visiting us, listening to some of our talks, and developing a meditation practice, we hope you will find more joy and happiness in you life. Our teacher, Bhante Vimalaramsi is an American Buddhist Monk teaching Metta Vipassana or sometimes called Tranquil Wisdom Meditation using the directions given in the Pali Suttas. U Vimalaramsi is the author of a book called "The Anapanasati Sutta: A guide to Mindfulness of Breathing and Tranquil Wisdom Meditation" that has now been translated into five languages we know of including Russian, Dutch, Korean and English. Sections of the book have also been translated into Spanish for teaching meditation. A combined approach of study is used to practice meditation, listen to Dhamma talks from the suttas, and then use contemplations to conclude insights. Eventually, after some time, one reads for oneself the suttas and the meaning comes alive and crystal clear. The practice never becomes boring in this way and will become easier and more fulfilling each time one goes to the cushion to see what happens next. We invite you to experience Dhamma Sukha Meditation Center for yourself. Please join us.

“Mendicants, those sentient beings who do good things in the morning by way of body, speech, and mind have a good morning.

Those sentient beings who do good things at midday by way of body, speech, and mind have a good midday.

Those sentient beings who do good things in the evening by way of body, speech, and mind have a good evening.

A good star, a good fortune,
a good dawn, a good rising,
a good moment, a good hour:
these come with good gifts to spiritual practitioners.

Worthy deeds of body,
verbal worthy deeds,
worthy deeds of mind,
worthy resolutions:
when your deeds have been worthy,
you get worthy benefits.

Those happy with these benefits
flourish in the Buddha’s teaching.
May you and all your relatives
be healthy and happy!”

This sutta shows us that if we are moral it will lead gradually to Nibbana and the destruction of the taints.

"That's why we are following these 5 precepts!"

AN 10.1 Kimatthiyasutta: What Purpose (Morality)?

Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Park. Then the Venerable Ānanda approached the Blessed One, paid homage to him, sat down to one side, and said to him:

(1) “Bhante, what is the purpose and benefit of wholesome virtuous behavior?”

(2) “Ānanda, the purpose and benefit of wholesome virtuous behavior is non-regret.”

(3) “And what, Bhante, is the purpose and benefit of non-regret?”

“The purpose and benefit of non-regret is joy.”

(4) “And what, Bhante, is the purpose and benefit of joy?”

“The purpose and benefit of joy is rapture.”

(5) “And what, Bhante, is the purpose and benefit of rapture?”

“The purpose and benefit of rapture is tranquility.”

(6) “And what, Bhante, is the purpose and benefit of tranquility?”

“The purpose and benefit of tranquility is pleasure.”

(7) “And what, Bhante, is the purpose and benefit of pleasure?”

“The purpose and benefit of pleasure is concentration.”

(8) “And what, Bhante, is the purpose and benefit of concentration?”

“The purpose and benefit of concentration is the knowledge and vision of things as they really are.”

(9) “And what, Bhante, is the purpose and benefit of the knowledge and vision of things as they really are?”

“The purpose and benefit of the knowledge and vision of things as they really are is disenchantment and dispassion.”

(10) “And what, Bhante, is the purpose and benefit of disenchantment and dispassion?”

“The purpose and benefit of disenchantment and dispassion is the knowledge and vision of liberation.

“Thus, Ānanda, (1)–(2) the purpose and benefit of wholesome virtuous behavior is non-regret; (3) the purpose and benefit of non-regret is joy; (4) the purpose and benefit of joy is rapture; (5) the purpose and benefit of rapture is tranquility; (6) the purpose and benefit of tranquility is pleasure; (7) the purpose and benefit of pleasure is concentration; (8) the purpose and benefit of concentration is the knowledge and vision of things as they really are; (9) the purpose and benefit of the knowledge and vision of things as they really are is disenchantment and dispassion; and (10) the purpose and benefit of disenchantment and dispassion is the knowledge and vision of liberation. Thus, Ānanda, wholesome virtuous behavior progressively leads to the foremost.”

CESSATION RESEARCH PAPER RELEASED

Its been awhile since Delson and others were in the Netherlands being studied for how the brain looked in Cessation but finally the paper is released. There are a few more findings that will be added later but here is the edition we have now.

It is quite an interesting paper delving into many aspects of what is Cessation or Nirodha. It looks at many practices perspectives and not just TWIM.
