Today's devotional reading from our site: "For the Daily"
Wednesday: Leaving the Comfort Zone

Thought: The boat represents safety. It’s dry, it’s rational, and it makes sense. But no one ever walked on water by staying in the boat. Think about Abraham leaving his homeland for the absolute unknown, or Peter throwing his legs over the side of a fiberglass hull in the middle of a squall. The expectation is that stepping out in faith will be easy, but the reality is that the wind usually keeps blowing. If we want to experience the miraculous power of Jesus in our lives, we have to be willing to leave the comfort of the familiar and risk getting our feet wet.

Questions to Consider:

What represents the "boat" (your comfort zone) in your life right now?

What is one small, specific step of faith Jesus is inviting you to take today to get out of that boat?

Prayer: Jesus, I like the boat. I like being comfortable and in control. But I want to experience Your power more than I want to stay safe. Give me the courage to step out in faith today, whether that means having a hard conversation, serving someone in need, or trusting You with my finances. Amen.

Directed Prayer for today:

O God, Uncreated Light and Living Flame of Love,

You who dwell in the quiet center of our souls and yet span the vastness of the heavens, draw us near to You this day. In a world full of noise, hurry, and endless striving, teach us the sacred discipline of silence. Help us to rest in Your presence, knowing that You are closer to us than our very breath, and more intimate to us than we are to ourselves.

Lord Jesus, Beloved Savior, fill our church family with Your transformational love. Melt away our pride, quiet our anxious thoughts, and untangle the distractions that bind our hearts. Burn away every pretense so that only Your pure Grace remains within us. May Your divine life flow through us as a gentle stream, softening our hardness and refreshing every dry, weary place in our midst.

Holy Spirit, Divine Breath, bind us together in unity. Where there is hurt, bring Your healing oil; where there is shadow, shine Your unquenchable truth; where there is fatigue, grant Your holy rest. Kindle in us a holy yearning not merely to know about You, but to truly know You—to love as You love, to serve as You serve, and to see Your image reflected in the face of every neighbor.

Keep us anchored in Your peace, grounded in Your mystery, and radiant with Your joy. May our church be a sanctuary of Your light—a place where the searching find home, the broken find wholeness, and all may taste and see that You are good.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,

Not one of these teens showed up to youth group just to feel affirmed or just to socialize…although Christian fellowship definitely accomplishes both.

But every one of them comes for the sole purpose of truly diving in to God’s word, striving to become more like Him, and learning what it means to be a Christ follower.

I am blessed by their desire to know Him and serve Him in this extremely dark world.

If you haven’t encouraged a teen recently, I hope you can find the time to do so.

They are living in a very different age than what we all endured as teens, and they not only need prayer…they need mentors and examples and people who care to not only tell them the way but show them…

And August 16th is our next Purity Conference…come join us!

I recently saw a quote that stopped me in my tracks: "Is your church a hospital or a hospice? One heals; the other just makes you comfortable dying."

It’s a brutal, necessary question.

Hospitals aren't designed for comfort. They are places of triage, messy surgeries, and painful rehabilitation. The process of getting well is exhausting and vulnerable, but the goal is restoration and life.

Hospices, on the other hand, are peaceful. They manage the pain. They give you a soft bed and a gentle environment, but they require no growth, because the outcome is already accepted.

When we look for spiritual community, what are we really asking for? Are we seeking a place that challenges us to heal, grow, and confront our deepest wounds—even when it hurts? Or are we just looking for a comfortable room and an echoing community that validates our brokenness without ever expecting us to change?

True healing requires a willingness to be cured. Are we seeking actual transformation, or just palliative care for the soul?
