St. Mary’s staff spent today in prayer and reflection, while tracing the steps of our parish founder, Fr. Samuel Mazzuchelli.

Fr. Mazzuchelli came to the United States as a young missionary priest and designed, built and established parishes in the Upper Midwest.

In 1842 he celebrated the first Mass in Iowa City and shortly thereafter he established what is today St. Mary’s.

His mark on Iowa City is seen also through his work on the Old Capitol Building.

His life was not an easy one. But his missionary zeal and selfless service paved the way for who we are as a community today. His cause for sainthood is currently open.

Tonight we began the Becoming Catholic (OCIA) process for the year. Please keep in prayer those adults exploring the faith and preparing for Sacraments.

Pray too for our leaders, Brandon and Grace, and all the table leaders as they walk with them this year.
