A Few Questions to Ponder: What will it look like for me to look past the tribulation, the trials, and the resistance, and love my enemies today? Am I willing to stand my ground on the truth of God’s Word, stand where Jesus stood, where falsehoods, accusations, and lies are being spoken about me? Can I trust Jesus to give me all I need to keep showing up, for His name’s sake?

So, how are you experiencing God’s presence as you are becoming a peacemaker for the cause of Christ?

My Prayer: Jesus, Your Word says…

“Make friends with nobodies; don’t be the great somebody.”

Sadly, Lord, if left to my own devices, I’m more interested in building a big fire so I will be noticed, than I am in sitting around a small quiet fire where You are the focus of all of our attention. Help me, Father God, to remember these core truths:

Prefer relationship over rules.
Go slow in order to go fast.
Be content with small, quiet fire.

For Your Name’s sake. Amen.

A Few Questions to Ponder: So, let’s get real here. Am I willing to focus on quality relationships, preferring one on one get-togethers over large, impressive meetings? Am I willing to go slow with the work of peacemaking, allowing Jesus to determine the rate of growth and expansion? Finally, am I willing to work in the shadows, tending small, quiet fire rather than dreaming of the next big burn?

A Few Questions to Ponder: In today’s Lectio Divina (Romans 12: 6-13), we are encouraged to many practical actions:

just preach God’s Message,
give encouraging guidance,
keep your eyes open and be quick to respond,
keep a smile on your face,
love from the center of who you are,
run from evil; hold on to good,
be (a) good friend who loves deeply,
practice playing second fiddle,
keep yourselves fueled and aflame,
be alert servants, cheerfully expectant,
help (the) needy,
be inventive in hospitality.

So, as a peacemaker for the cause of Christ, which of these actions might I work on today?

A Few Questions to Ponder: St. Augustine said, “In essentials, unity; in nonessentials, diversity; in all things, charity.”

As I prepare myself to go out into this vastly diverse world, serving Christ as a peacemaker for God’s glory, have I determined what my essentials are? Am I clear when it comes to who God is, who Christ is, and to what and to who Jesus is calling me? Am I certain of my role as a Christ-centered peacemaker, and am I clear on my non-negotiables? Is there a growing holy difference when it comes to having diversity and charity in the non-essentials?

My Prayer: Jesus, as a peacemaker for the greater glory of God, You always seemed to have God’s heart for the one person, the one sheep, the one lonely, desperate soul. And You were willing to leave the ninety-nine in order to rescue and restore that one who had wandered from the flock, holding space for them even when others had written them off. Holy Spirit, indwell and empower me to do likewise, for Your Name’s sake. Amen.

A Few Questions to Ponder: As we asked earlier: when I survey my circle of influence, who am I holding space for right now. And secondly, as I continue this work at the center of God’s will, who is holding space for me? Is there a spiritual mentor or companion who is coming alongside me, giving me a place to be real, to be my true self, to be all Jesus sees me to be?

A Few Questions to Ponder: Eugene Peterson calls the work of caring and curing of souls as “a determination to work at the center, to concentrate on the essential.” In what practical ways, as a peacemaker for the cause of Christ, might I put this work of caring at the center of all I do? What lesser priorities in my life need to take a back seat to this important aspect of inviting people into God’s Circle of Peace?

A Few Questions to Ponder: In Jesus’ peacemaking work, He spoke boldly about God’s in-breaking shalom, and performed many different works of peace that set the burdened and battered free. What words and works of peace is Jesus asking me to deliver to others today? Am I confident that Jesus not only has called me to this work of peace, but that God’s Spirit is also on me to do such work?

My Prayer: Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me. Melt me. Mold me. Fill me. Use me. Spirit, of the Living God, fall afresh on me. For Your Name’s sake. Amen.

A Few Questions to Ponder: When was the last time I prayed a simple prayer of surrender to God, the Father; Jesus, the Son; and the Holy Spirit? When was the last time I stopped my thoughts, my words, and my deeds long enough for there to be silence as I sit in God’s presence? When was the last time, I invited the Holy Spirit to indwell me, empower me, melt me, mold me, fill me, use me, and then waited long enough for that holy transaction to actually occur?

A Few Questions to Ponder: Micah 5: 4-5a (NIV) says… He will stand and shepherd His flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD His God. And they will live securely, for then His greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. And He will be our peace.

So, what am I doing today that is positioning me alongside God’s Shepherd? Am I experiencing His strength? Am I dwelling in His security? Am I partaking of His peace? And finally, am I welcoming others around me today to come be a part of His peace, for Christ’s sake?

A Few Questions to Ponder: So, where have I been guilty of trying to build my own ministry, putting good plans together and then asking God to come join with my plan? What might it look like to walk away from that mindset and begin aligning myself with the plan of peace that God is already working all around me? Do I have eyes to see it? Do I have ears to hear it? Do I have the will and desire to adjust my life to it?
