It’s and our last Shabbat dinner of the school year 🖤💛 Thank you, Hawkeyes, for being part of all the Shabbat dinners, laughs, conversations, and community this year. We’re so grateful for each of you and glad you’re here.

Meet Sammie, a Marketing major originally from Northbrook, Illinois, who is one of our amazing seniors graduating next week! 🎓 When Sammie transferred to the University of Iowa, she was searching for a place where she felt seen, heard, understood, and completely at home. Walking into the Hillel House for her first Shabbat dinner, she found exactly that. From that night forward, Sammie knew she had a home on campus where she belonged. This transformational experience inspired her to seek a career with Jewish nonprofit organizations in New York City, so she can help others find the same sense of meaning, confidence, and connection that Hillel gave her.

We’re so proud of Sammie and our other seniors as they graduate next weekend! Meet Jeremy, a junior Marketing major! Coming to Iowa from the Chicagoland area, Jeremy was used to being surrounded by a large Jewish community. When he arrived on campus and didn’t know many people, he was looking for a place where he could feel a similar sense of connection. Jeremy went to his first Hillel Shabbat dinner with his AEPi brothers and fell in love with it. 🕯️🍽️ For Jeremy, Shabbat quickly became a constant to look forward to at the end of the week; it’s a time to hang out with friends, relax, and just be himself.

Meet Tessa, a sophomore International Studies major from Boulder, Colorado! 🌎 For Tessa, Hillel has always been a place that she can walk into any day of the week and feel like she belongs. During her freshman year, she was always at Hillel, stopping by between classes and attending Shabbat dinners. This past winter, Tessa traveled to Israel on Hillel’s Birthright trip, where the shared journey really connected her with others. Since coming home, Tessa has been able to continue to grow these friendships.

Meet Abigael from New Jersey, a first-year English and Creative Writing major at Iowa. ✏️ When Abigael came to Iowa, she was fourteen hours from home and missing the family and Jewish community she knew. She came to Hillel because she was homesick, but stayed because she found a new family. From Orientation Week to her first Shabbat dinner, Hillel gave Abigael a place to feel welcomed, supported, and at home.
