The cornerstone was laid in 1862 and the church, constructed of locally fired brick, was completed in 1866. it was the first church to serve the people of the area and is registered as California Historical Landmark #506 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NPS-77000287).

We are excited to announce that Rev. Rob Herrmann has been appointed to be the new pastor at Ione Community and Creekside United Methodist Churches as of July 1st, 2026.

Pastor Mark Smith will be reappointed to Fresno Wesley after eight years of service here in Amador County. Please keep them both in prayer during this time of transition.

The flowering of the cross is a beautiful symbol of transformation of the cross from a symbol of death to one of new life through Jesus’ resurrection.

During the service our congregation adorned the cross with flowers and then brought it outside to be seen by our neighbors as a public sign of hope.

The season of Lent begins tomorrow. As we begin the journey we remember that it’s not just about turning away from sin, but about turning toward our merciful God.

We mark the beginning of this season with the imposition of Ashes, a reminder of our mortality as well as a sign of God’s persistent grace through it all.

Wednesday at 6PM, Ione Community UMC will have an Ash Wednesday service of confession and preparation which will conclude with the imposition of ashes.
